I thought it was very funny how you demonstrated that the only way to manipulate the fountain pen with one hand to get the nib out is by hitting yourself on the forehead with it. I've been watching your videos for years and it's always a pleasure to get clear, straightforward and precise information in videos that are just the right length (not too long, not too short). Thank you and keep up the good work!

I appreciate capless pens. I love my Pilot vanishing point and use it a lot. It's so practical for meetings, quick notes ans session notes with clients because I don't need to constantly cap and uncap a screw cap pen or find a place to put a cap that doesn't post. It's also a beautiful writer. So smooth and and it has a wet nib (I have a medium and broad nib for mine). I also like the look of it and I'm not bothered by the clip placement. If anything I wish the vanishing point was a little bit larger and that the opening and closing mechanism was quieter, but I'm very happy with it exactly as it is. That being said: This is the beauty of the large selection of fountain pen models we have available. Practically everyone will be able to find their perfect match. It's perfectly understandible that some people don't like capless pens. I was so excited to read about this new Nahvalur, but I'm so happy that I didn't pre order it. After seeing a few reviews, I'm not buying this one. Thank you for saving me money! (For once :D )

Yes, I have the Iridium model with a Fine nib. The ridges of the barrel were noticed immediately when holding the pen in a writing position. I have somewhat larger rougher hands so it's not uncomfortable for me to hold, and it's easy enough to operate one-handed. My tripod grip naturally rests on the clip ring that holds the clip on the barrel. I must say, banging the end of the pen on your forehead was a rather extreme way to make a point!! For those whose hands are smaller all they have to do is press the pen against the shoulder or use the underside of a desk. I have had the nib dry on me, but I keep a sample vial with water in it to do a quick dip of the nib to get it writing immediately. I like the pen, and find it useful mostly because of the girth, but it's only mildly interesting. I agree that it could have been better designed.

I use retractable nib pens for a specific purpose: taking intermittent, fairly short notes while away from home. I use two kinds: the MaJohn A1 and the new Jinhao 10. These are tough, easy-to-use, smooth-writing pens, and I mostly use F nibs and a well-behaved waterproof ink like Noodler’s Anti-Feather (or X-feather) Blue. These pens cost $25 or less US and are tough enough to withstand some rough handling in transit. Basically, these are the easiest, most convenient way to use a fountain pen for taking intermittent notes. The nib is safe and doesn’t dry out and there’s no leaking or loose cap to keep track of. For writing at home, I have all my range of favorites. But for on-the-go notes, a pen that clicks open and closed and is tough yet smooth and pleasant works best for me.

I’m a big fan 🪭 of retractable pens as I find them useful for taking quick notes. I have an Eclipse on order. I’ve also picked up 3 Jinhao 10s recently-Vanishing Points by another name. Very good quality if you don’t want to hand over a fortune for a VP.

My Vanishing Point, Majohn A1, and the eclipse nib units are all interchangeable. A one word description I would use is Cumbersome. I like unique, so it will stay in my collection, an OK note taker that will be rotated with the other two capless pens. My favorite of the 3 is the clipless Majohn which currently has the VP gold medium nib installed. Why, because I can.

Thank you, Stephen! I've been wondering about this pen. If I were a collector, I'd buy one, but I can see that I would become frustrated with it very quickly. Not for me!

Thank you for the entertaining spin on the Eclipse. I actually purchased two of them because I enjoy writing with retractable nib fps. These are going to take some getting used to due to the faceting. I have lady fingers and the barrels with their unforgiving edges cause me to rotate my grip in an attempt to find comfort.

Had the chance to play with this pen during a recent pen meet. What I found "uncomfortable" was the openings in the body which wanted to flay my skin, also I think an opportunity was missed by not having an ink window (after all what is the point of the openings), but then that is just me. Found that the grip was better than a VP, it is bigger, but wonder for longer writing sessions how it would fair. As usual great review, much appreciated.

I never got on with my Pilot Capless, probably because I have small hands. My husband likes it. It is a good quality product. The follow ons by different companies are not adding anything to the main idea. They also seem to lack in execution. I think in all but price Pilot can claim this one.

These various capless pens are anathema to me. I have several, all retired for one reason or another, but basically they seem not to be user friendly, but are messy and unreliable. Perhaps that opinion varies with the user. Why some manufacturers appear to insist on re-inventing them is curious, when the standard fountain pen is not really that difficult to use and maintain.

I like it, but I don't love it. My fingers are long enough to operate it one-handed, but it took a bit of practice to be able to do it naturally as soon as I pick it up. I took the clip off mine which damaged the finish on the frontmost ridge, but it's not too noticeable. Mine is the gold version with the black nib, but because I took the clip off it can be tricky to know if I've got it the right way round since the black nib looks the same reversed as it does in the normal orientation unless I'm in really good light. Removing the clip gives me a nice little section where my fingers can rest, so the sharp edges don't affect my grip too much. It seems to dry out after 4 or 5 days, depending on the ink, which isn't brilliant, but I've had worse.

I operate the pen by holding it nib up and pushing down on a pad or my palm. I don't try to do it with my thumb. Also it works with pilot carts and the cart cover.

I total agree, whatever is the need for a retractable nib? I don't like the clicking sound/apparatus. Pen caps are best!

I agree with you; this one is not for me. I have and like my Vanishing Point because it works well one-handed, is great for occasional quick note taking sessions and has a great nib. However, I almost never use it simply because the clip makes it seem like I'm using the "eraser-end" to write with. It's clip isn't in the way, it just twists my brain to write with the "wrong" end. (Yeah, OK. I suppose that's a "personal" problem, but, there it is.) This pen might appeal to a segment of the community, it certainly looks nice, almost futuristic, and its nib seems wonderful, but ... not for me. Btw: activating the nib by hitting your forehead with the pen might not earn you the best "nickname" in an important business or classroom setting ... but neither would repeatedly activating it against a table top.

For me doesn't make sense to have a retractable nib fountain pen. Fountain pens are classic things. If you want something more "practical" or "modern" just by a ballpoint pen.
