Here’s a QUESTION/tip that might be helpful to reiterate: why is it important for the natural nails to be dry before starting prep? It still confuses me, because we also want to keep our nails moisturized (I.e.: using cuticle oil) to prevent our nails and skin from drying out/splitting. Love LOVE LOVE the idea of this series! So well articulated, Karen! Context is key! Once you understand the “why”, it really helps people to truly grasp the purpose of each step and technique! I’ve learned so much from this channel already!

I totally understand what you're asking, and for me, who is only an enthusiast, we want the nails cleansed/dehydrated to maximize proper adhesion. The product won't stick to a slick surface if that makes sense. Young Nails, correct me if I'm wrong.

We do normally want to keep our nails hydrated, but in order for product to adhere to the nail plate, we do need to remove the surface oils. These oils create a barrier and don't allow the product to bond to the nail cells. After any service, the product has bonded to the nail and we replenish the moisture by applying cuticle oil.

Can you prep with just a cuticle pusher and regular nail file? I prepped really good with e file and bond but my clients have at least one nail that pops off
@youngnailsinc
6 ай бұрын
If you don't have an efile, you can use a hand file as an alternative. However, the hand file may not get all the way in to the cuticle area like the efile can to fully prep, remove protein growth and shine from the nail surface. We highly recommend using the efile with a mandrel/medium sanding band or diamond cuticle bits to prep.

Great video thank you Karen for in depth explanation. My question: is a chemical cuticle remover necessary for nail prep or when is it necessary?
@youngnailsinc
6 ай бұрын
When putting on enhancements, we do not recommend using a cuticle remover as this can add chemicals/oils to the nail plate that can inhibit adhesion. If you are doing a traditional (non gel) manicure without an efile, you may want to use a cuticle remover for this service.

Even if i am very gentle when i push back by cuticlues it hurra and if i push i would bleed. Like literally my skin is gwint into nail , i dont have this thick and high skon bulk over the nails bed, i just have it completely flat 😮 how to move this ?
@youngnailsinc
6 ай бұрын
Pushing back your cuticles should not be painful and they definitely should not be bleeding. Make sure you are using a rounded cuticle pusher (like our Magic Wand) and only using gentle pressure. You should only be using enough pressure to loosen the eponychium from the nail. This will how the dry white cuticle/protein growth left on the nail. This protein growth is what should be cleaned off with the cuticle pusher or even a buffer can sometimes remove it. If you are just doing a natural nail manicure, you can use a cuticle softener to help loosen the cuticle or if you are doing enhancements, you can use the efile with a medium sanding band or diamond cuticle bit.
