🔥🔥 Thanks for all the messages asking if we are safe from the fires here in Australia.💕 We do live in VIC but the fires are about 3 hours drive away from us at the moment (Australia is a big country, it's about the same width as the USA and has a slightly bigger land mass than the USA excluding Alaska ). One of our Patrons had a couple of very close calls up in Batemans Bay (people were trapped on the beach in that area with all exit roads closed off by the fire) but thankfully she is safe and they still have their home. We have all our fire crews, plus some fire fighters from USA (thank you) and the military working on it, but the fires are just huge. Here in VIC 🔥923,000 hectares have been blackened and 39 fires are continuing to burn. In NSW 🔥4.9 million hectares (12 million acres) have been burnt or are burning and in SA 🔥170,000 hectares of Kangaroo Island (a third of the Island) was burnt. Twenty three people have died in the fires and 1,500 homes destroyed. Prayers for rain are appreciated.

Not sure if people will see but I have watched all baking shows and nailed it and they all get roughly the same amount of time. The problem that these two made is they did the second challenge with the first challenge time. If it's not clear the first time is usually the easy challenge. The episode I remember watching had them make cake pops for that challenge with premade cake or box cake with a recipe and they got 45 minutes. The second challenge cake was a mountain of sorts and that got 2 hours. Yes. some may scream that is still too short but there are many food challenges that have similar times with rare ones giving 4 hours. This says the times: www.bleedingcool.com/2019/01/13/nailedit-season-1-bc-rewind/ But based off the intricacies of the doll I believe it would be second round but I could be wrong due to not seeing this episode. Though looking at what they did in 45 I do believe if it was second-round time they would have finished it beautifully but being an amateur myself I would have little hope to get close in 2 hours let alone 45 minutes. Here is a link that also shows a thumbnail of the doll if you don't want to find it in the video. www.insider.com/nailed-it-netflix-baking-fails-photos-2018-3#this-doll-wound-up-half-naked-during-the-final-episode-of-season-3-17

Jean Dobbs tbh, Sugar Rush's entire premise basically proves that Nailed It sets up their contestants for failure...in Sugar Rush, the main edge contestants win is extra time for their final cake, and the show even calls the base 3 hours for the final cake "barely enough time." So if a show with proffesional bakers acknowledges that even 3 hours is too little to make a perfect cake, then how the heck does Nailed It expected its contestants to do well at all?

This was super fun. Nicole has said that the contestants absolutely only have the time they say they do; because it’s a game show, the rules are very strict about how it needs to be run. (I find Nailed It to be the direct opposite of mockery. It’s all fun and joyful, the judges poke fun in a very positive way, unlike every other American food competition show, and the contestants all seem to take it as a goof as it’s intended.)

Yeah, I think this video and some of the comments are missing the fact that no one expects the amature bakers to get close to the final project and those competing know it is an impossible challenge. There is just joy in watching their attempts and communal laughs at the creations they do manage. Plus, some of them do surprisingly well despite everything.

Exactly my thoughts! They often use box mixes (although they try to hide it), and I’ve seen them use pre-made cakes at least once. And the blast chiller makes a huge difference, too. Couldn’t possibly make it with a from scratch cake (with melted chocolate, not cocoa powder to boot), and no blast chiller. Who is set up to fail? Irony. Gotta love it.

No not at all! Cooking shows always try to find that time that just barely meets the required amount of time to do the task. In THAT case, the contestants would have to be good at managing time and avoiding mistakes. In Nailed It, they don’t give NEARLY enough time that even a professional who was working efficiently and without pressure could make it in. Like others have said, the challenges are designed to make the contestants fail. No one could do it in that time.

Was anyone else surprised that they used real dolls for this challenge? Every doll cake I've ever seen uses a special cake decorating doll topper that's just the torso (no legs). And you can buy domed cake tins for the skirt, so it's a pretty beginner-friendly project. The whole smooshing the legs into a layered cake is just setting yourself up for failure.

So just a couple of things. I love Ann Reardon but I also really like Nailed It so I just want to say a few things in defense. First, I'm not 100% certain about this, but as far as i can tell, the contestants are given all of their dry ingredients as a sort of "cake mix" (at least in this episode) aaaand they have a blast freezer. That being said, yes the show is way too hard buttt that's kinda the point. Its less like a "strive for perfection" and more like a "where should I cut my losses and make the most of my time?"

Years ago when I was learning cake decorating we made a doll cake. The cake alone took 45 minutes to bake and it took a bit of time to decorate the cake because I was still learning and in between classes I would practice how to make frosting and fondant decorations. I was fortunate to have my one grandmother teach me. things in between classes. I know it takes more than that to make a doll cake from experience,

yeah, they do a similar segment of a show here. They take young people who don't know how to bake, and basically say to them "today you cook the dish x" and than expect them to cook that without recepy. It basically claims "young people can't cook", because they don't know how to make, for example, a complete lasagna without any recepy.

We talked about the show Nailed It with our girls (ages 6 and 9) after watching some with them and they were disappointed that people would be set up to fail. It discourages people from learning (much like those other "fast craft" and "baking hack" channels) and there is a whole discussion about learning, competence, autonomy, and a system that is built to keep people reliant on consumerism that leads off that one... But, the super long story short is that we love that they enjoy HTCT, Kawaii Sweet World (which you had recommended) and real crafting, baking, and building channels. It fires up their imaginations and encourages us as a family to try new things. Miss 9 even commented that she liked when you include mistakes as you are trying new things because it shows the true learning process and encourages her that its okay to make mistakes while you are learning, and how you learn from it and try again with more knowledge. From a Mum of a potential perfectionist - thank you
