Enjoy the Channel Caleb. If you are going to do this properly and that involves inputting those speaker distances and room dimensions then you should be calculating it via a laser pointer measurer from Bosch or similar from your local hardware store. Just sayin 😉

@@stevenlawrence2232 I mean, that’s a great idea, but unfortunately the Dragon doesn’t allow that much granularity. Distances are input in increments of whole feet, no inches. Not even .5, unless there’s a setting I’ve somehow missed.

Wow, thanks Caleb! Questions about the surrounds (perhaps for the review, unless you can answer here.) Are there just two units? If so, does Nakamichi treat them like dipole or bipole side-surrounds, or is each facade / set of drivers supposed to somehow be a side and a rear surround combined into one cabinet?
@MyFatherLoves
Жыл бұрын
They are basically side surround and rear surround discrete channels with the idea of having the rear surround bounce off the rear wall and come at you from behind. Same idea as the Atmos speakers. Also like the atmos and wide speakers in this setup, it's not DSP-powered/mixed/magic. They are discrete channels that are implemented as if they were an actual speaker mounted in space near the wall.

If you were in the audio industry back in the 80s, and or an avid audio guru at the time, you would know that Nakamichi had a cassette deck called the Dragon. @@fonkenful Indeed! Back in the eighties, there were two kings of the castle as far as cassette decks were concerned. You were either Team Nakamichi Dragon, or Team Revox B-215. I couldn't afford EITHER, but I always leaned towards The Dragon if I had to pick one, though you also could NOT take the Revox deck lightly, as Studer was the king of the multitrack recorders and two track mastering recorders found in most all studios back then. Definitely a tough choice. I would take either one, even today! 😊🙌🏾

In an addentum that must be made to my earlier post, I foolishly forgot to place the other "king" of that audio cassette castle I mentioned: the Tandberg 3014a cassette deck. Built like a proverbial TANK, it was also the cream of the crop in the cassette deck world. I remember those days with great fondness, reading the reviews of these mentioned, as well as decks by Teac, Sony, Aiwa and Nikko, which made a very good three head deck (the D-600) that was affordable and gave me great joy using. Anyway, my apologies if I skewed off topic. Cheers and salutations to all! 😊🙏🏾

@@Juraiprince I can only remember the impressions of machines I actually used, and possibly had a predisposition towards the Revox after owning two permutations of A77 (circa ‘73/74). The Crown SX 700 series was a vastly superior machine sonically, but not as user friendly, and felt like a lot more than just 8lbs heavier than A77 …. but I digress.

Thank you as always, Caleb!

I'm sorry about 7 months of research on the Dragon and having pre-ordered it . There are no connections to the central unit for any additional pieces of audio or video equipment for extra power or extra speakers. Several HDMI connections and a couple other Legacy connections but that is it. I asked one of the Naka Ninjas and they said I could hook up my wireless headphones via the optical jack that it has. So that was nice to hear. He also stated the on-line specific Naka headphones are not their headphones but a 3d party that has licensing to use their name. This Sound System has a total output of 3,000 watts so you not be lacking in power at 1/2 volume it will shake your family pics almost off the wall.

Great unboxing! I can’t wait to see your full review. I’m hoping purchases the Dragon surround system, but in my application would need to set the rear surrounds on top of some upper level cabinets mounted on my rear wall. Can you find out what the minimum recommended clearance between the top of the speakers & the ceiling is , and cover this in your full review?

This thing has that much hype (me included) you could charge for listening parties. You’d pay for the thing in a week 🤣

Or just wall mount the TV. That would be the easiest thing to do. This thing is a monster. Love it.

Like Caleb had mentioned there is a wall mount for the soundbar and there are also wall mounts for the two rear Atmos speakers Plus standing real nice looking standing stands for the rears but pretty pricey $299.00 + tax One of the Naka Ninjas told me over the phone that the rear Atmos speakers will have the wall mounts in the box but I'm unsure of that statement.

I really thought you had found a unicorn - a still boxed Nakamichi Dragon Tapedeck for compact cassettes, the dream of any audiophile back in the time when compact cassettes still were a thing.
