During the summer of 2022, Alaska Department of Fish and Game technicians Caulin Leach and Lauren Hynes, conducted Chinook Salmon Creel Sample Survey on the Naknek River in the Bristol Bay area. The Naknek River supports one of the largest Chinook salmon sport fisheries in Southwest Alaska. Approximately every 5-10 years, ADF&G conducts on the ground surveys on four of the main Chinook salmon rivers in the Bristol Bay area. ADF&G technicians collect biological (scale and sex of fish) samples, measure and weigh the fish. Additionally, they record type of gear used to target fish, residency status, number of anglers fishing, and so much more.
