this is all kinds of awesome... if I'm correct this guy was basically obsessed with Angus' tone and ended up going so far as starting a company to sell the products he had to develop to get that tone. I think SoloDallas was his youtube handle even

That's a good price for that amp. I was expecting it to be twice that much for how it is built and hell, so many other companies out there, are really sticking it to people for HW heads like these!!! Awesome job Solodallas!!!

Actually JTM 50's are rare but I wouldn't go "proclaiming" that they are "thee" most rare when others can argue that the JCM 800 50 watt vertical inputs are just as rare. With "ALL" the respect to Angus who is the primary reason I do what I do his tones have changed from album to album and I don't know if it's "your" gear that is to blame or if he just hasn't worked with a producer equal to Mutt Lang but he hasn't been able to return to his "FIRE" of yesteryear. He's become quite subdued and mellow over the last few albums and hopefully with the presence of W. All Rose Angus will once again return to his true form! That gritty angry swaggering abrasive feed backing out of control tone that he once owned.

if you're gonna spend that kind of money? Go out and buy the "real deal" find a JTM or JCM 800 50 WATT and you are correct. There is NOTHING special about AC/DC's tone.

Mario Garcia absolutely. I don't understand everyone's pricing on gear. Does not make sense to me. All this replica, fake, copy, wanna-be, wish they were, reissue gear. What ever people want to call the stuff. Pricing should be at least half of what they are. If not even less. Especially these old amps and pedals. So little inside them. So easy to build. Seems like the less involved in building a amp or pedal the more people charge, and pay. So silly.

I understand, it's impossible to be liked by everyone - I don't seek that. I truly do this as myself; with all my best intentions, it's always been like that since I started doing this thing of mine, back in 2006. And I also understand that I do come off as nerdy, weird. It's how I truly am and I don't try to hide it: I never did in fact. It's truly a passion of mine that I had since I was 10 years old; it hit me right there and then and never left me. I wanted that sound. I really did, still do to this day. I didn't know it was so hard to achieve, however: it still pains me to play as I try to today. I wish it was as easy as you say (or someone else, even here). It was a very hard path to make; our products were and are not easy to make, pay for and promote. But I am not here to complain: just to tell you my personal truth. Thanks, Fil 'SoloDallas'

Fil, come on.. $3200 for that amp..?! It sounded really muffled there (maybe a by-product of namm itself), but I can get better AC/DC tones out of my Fender Deluxe Reverb and my Weehbo Effekts PlexDrive pedal at a third of the cost.. but better sounding! What sayith you or anybody else..
@superdriver777
4 жыл бұрын
Totally speculation, but given that they're at NAMM and that amp would be exceptionally loud at the volume settings they need for that tone, they are almost certainly using an attenuator. Even the best attenuators sound muffled [*to me*]

I get the same, if not better "AC/DC" tones with my 20yo Marshall DSL 401 SL combo (got the vid to prove it). Bottom line is, it's not the amp that gets you there, it's how you set it.

micing position matters almost more than the amp itself, in this case the mic was just probably slopped down and recorded quickly on an interface for premier. If Fil would have had more time he could easily have tested different positions and gave you a creaming tone

So Dennis, Your ‘Proof ‘ is a recording of you playing some chords over a some very ordinary sounding backing tracks, way back in 1010! Are you having a laugh, or are you serious? You mean tell me you think that you actually sound as good if not better, back then in 2010, at reproducing AC/DC tones than played by Fil Olivieri in 2018? You’re delusional. All this proves to me is A: The backing track sounded ordinary and so was the recording, not worthy of posting in the first place to try and prove your point B:Any half decent bedroom guitar player can knock out the E D A riff to Back in Black and can hide behind the playing on a backing track(which sounds as generic as you can possibly get) to make themselves think they sound as good as the original album recording!! You actually have the temerity to publicly criticize people such as Fil Olivieri and the team at SoloDallas who do and will continue to put their money where their mouths are, so others can have the same 100% replica equipment which was originally used on the recordings of some of the greatest albums ever made. So they in turn can come tantalizingly close tone wise so as to create new and exciting music themselves.Some of those players using SoloDallas products are some of the biggest names in the business, including Mr Angus Young himself, who uses SD Towers live and on the last AC/DC Studio Album ‘Rock or Bust’. I don’t think there would be anyone using a 20 year old Marshall DSL401 SL combo amp, no matter what the settings are to get a professional tone, bedroom players or otherwise.
@ghosthead2008

'94 XJR/Go Down I wasn't criticizing anyone. I was just pointing out, that you don't have to pay $$$$, to get close to those tones. Btw, I've had many conversations with SD, back when he was a regular member of the mylespaul forum, and couldn't be happier for his continued success. And, he's one hell of a player.
