Excuse my ignorance but would the Grenadiers cuffs / collars be painted the same as the rest of the brigade,I presume they would ? Would there ever be a brigade of Grenadiers on there own ?Thanks again.

+Mark Hetherington I have to say I’m not an expert on the uniforms. As far as I’m aware it was only the light troops that had different cuffs. Also as for the separate Grenadier battalions. Again not an expert but I think they kept them with their parent units. The Austrians split them up and formed separate brigades. But the French and British had elite regiments like the old Guard etc so they didn’t need to gather all the grenadiers together to form elite units.

For any rule writer, well, the way i have always approached it is "what do you want out of the game". For me its "grand strategy" for others its that battalion action or the moral factor or the combat. Once you decide what you want out of the rule mechanics then you can progress.

I love 28mm minis but the problem is you then need a huuuuge table to recreate battles. im going with 10mm minis. Will save the 28 mm minis I have and play Drums and shakos or Sharpe practice with em. Actually what I am doing for now is playing with cardboard cutout bases cut to the 10/15mm sizes(3/4" x 1") from Age of Eagles. This will give me an idea of how big a battle I can realistically play on my available table haha. Then I plan on slowly replacing the empty bases with models. Untill I can recreate Quatre Bras.
@leont66wargaming31
5 жыл бұрын
Jonny English That is the main problem with 28mm. The space needed to play with them. If I could go back in time I’d probably do 15/18mm. I am going to be doing AWI in 15/18mm in the future. If I can get on with that scale I might do the naps in that scale as well. And just save the 28’s for taking to the club where I can have a huge table to play on Just saw the second half of your comment lol Yeah that’s a good plan to be fair. In fact I think I’ll use it to start my AWI 👍🏻🙂

I like what you have done with the cardboard cutouts! A big part of the fun with these type of projects is the planning and prep! Quatre Bras was my first miniatures project using Minifig 15mm many years ago. My goal was to recreate SPI's Ney vs Wellington board game with miniatures (33-1) on Terrain Maker foam hexagons using 4 4x8 modular tables. I had all of Ney's command and most of Wellington's done before stopping on the project, which now some 20-30 years later I plan to continue, but using John Tiller Software Waterloo Campaign computer game instead. My question to you, if I may ask, is are the old Minifig 15mm compatible in scale with AB 18mm Napoleonics?

@@leont66wargaming31 I have not tried 15mm, but as I find 10mm to still be quite detailed, I am sure they look great. One of the nice things with 6mm is you can do your armies with ranks of about 4 across and 3 deep on 28mm square bases. Thus either reducing your table size, or massively increasing your game size, with huge amounts of room for flanking (check out KZitem channel Little Wars TV, which uses several scales, or the pod cast God's on Scale, which is a new 6mm podcast).

The footprint of your units could be less if you mounted them in closer files. So-called Foundry basing is really open files. Close order infantry formed up with elbows touching; sometimes closer: 21" to 24". By using 45mm front you're effectively showing a unit with files a scale four and a half feet or so per file.

I have noticed the propensity for these "short games" or time limited games, where did this come from ? other than a club nite, where you are time limited by the club, in our case pub opening hours, my games have always been to the max possible, usually on a saturday, and from 9 or 10am till 8 to 10 pm...sometimes even longer, do people really struggle to get to play what i would call a full game ?

The Old Wargamer I think it mostly stems from club nights and people with their busy lives. Also on a 6x4 there’s only so much space for your armies. So less troops less things to do each turn. I have played these rules over a full day on a huge 12x8 table. It was great fun but I don’t have the space at home to do that. If playing 15/18mm you could have a much longer game on a 6x4 table.

@@leont66wargaming31 , point taken. When i get enough napoleonic figures painted up, i'll be using a 6x4 table at home, in my little house.. :)

I’m hopeless at finishing a game within a few hours: even a small skirmish. Much prefer something that lasts a long afternoon and evening. Gives time for lunch, a stroll in the park, and a good natter, and with a few drinks thrown in for good measure. :)

@@sirrathersplendid4825 , with you all the way Sir Rather....i think our little group are very similar to you, we spend way to much time chatting and putting the world to rights, we usually have a glass of wine with lunch, i know, so decadent...but whilst doing all of that we also have an enjoyable game..

French Battalions are made up of 6 companies. One Grenadier company with red Pom poms. One Voltigeur company with yellow/green Pom poms. (Although sometimes these colours did vary). And 4 others. The other 4 companies have Orange Blue Green Violet Pom poms. I have been meaning to do a video on this subject. I’ll try to get round to it soon.

I think I'm going to start with some Prussian Landwehr since they are 4 dollars unpainted for 4 of them and I can build up a battalion of them easily but I had a question on what paint I should use? Do you reccomend some cheap art store paints or a certain brand I need a prussian blue, yellow, white, brown and flesh skin.

British arty equipment was painted a standard blue-grey. Quite how blue it was is a tricky question. As for how light or dark it was, that’s more of a matter of taste as it depends on ambient light, dust and other effects.

There are a number of websites that sell painted as well as unpainted figures in various scales such as 28mm and 54mm. The painted figures are VERY expensive. One figure cost about as much as a box of unpainted figures. I bought scores of HAT Prussian figures (1750s) scale 1/32, primed them all and began painting them. Realised it would take me forever so I quit. For the purpose of doing a diorama and photographing it, I could paint all figures using a photoshop program.

V Alaudae I realise the music is not to everyone’s taste. I did a survey regarding it a few videos ago and the general consensus was that people preferred having some music to none at all. I myself was on the fence about it. I may well address the issue again at some point.
