@@hip-hophistorybuff I also love how open minded you are which is refreshing from a nas fan. This run as been incredible and I am both grateful for the output and thankful for the quality. I am glad nas has enough confidence to trust himself and block out the noise from the nas enthusiasts that think they know whats best for him more than he knows whats best for him. The hitboy slander must also stop. Hit is a best of a producer, never stingy with the beats. He has inspired nas and given him wind for his 3rd prime. Stop the disrespect.

This album 🔥. It isnt better then kd3 imo, but i love the different direction he took on this one. They did a magnificent job on this one. Very dope tape. FYI, Nas has the worst fan base hands down. If it aint 90's NY beats & That nostalgia feeling, alot of them aint gone rock with it. I kinda hope he does do a joint with premo so they can be happy, & stfu. Hes wants to be more of a artist, and they want him to continuously try to make ill-matic every single time he does album. Illmatic is 1 of 1 for a reason. Leave it where its at, and let him soar.

This album is DOPE with moments of absolute brilliance sprinkled all throughout. Nas is rappin' his a** off. You know it's a dope project when heads arguing 6-7 different joints to be their favorite. But, What This All Really Means is beautiful, from the pocket Nas was in to him recalling his days on the up & up. This is at least an 8-8.5 for me off one listen. Impossible to digest this in one weekend. Nas albums aren't your flavor of the week projects, his marinate over time. Big ups once again, you always have some of the most well thought out reviews.

Aye, my guy lol. That's a good way of putting it tho, some people need to just put Illmatic on repeat and just call it day. That said, I got to be honest man, I think Magic 2 actually *IS* better than Magic 1, and I actually don't even think it's close. Sure there's an intro and a bonus track, but each album has 9 tracks on them Speechless vs Abracadabra This is tough, so tough, I'm going to call this a push. If you twisted my arm and forced me to pick one, I'd go Abracadabra, that joint just hits hard and thumps, truly bump in the whip or hit your next set hard music right there. I love Speechless too tho, Nas came out swinging haymakers on this one *Meet Joe Black* vs Office Hours Gotta go MJB here. I actually love Office Hours, but Meet Joe Black slightly edges it out because my man 50 sounded rusty af. More importantly, this track REALLY showed the difference between a good rapper and a GOD level MC, but one floating like a butterfly while the other was still doggy paddling in the shallow end. Still, it was nice to have 50 on the record, and the classic 50 shit talk was nice at the end too, just needed a few more bars before then. But like anyone who's out of shape, his pen game ran out of gas after 8 bars 😂 Ugly vs *Black Magic* Black Magic, and this is a no contest. Ugly is cool, but easily my least favorite song on Magic one. It's not bad, definitely fits on that project, but it's not the best. Black Magic is one of the best songs on the album and truly puts Nas in a commercial rapper lane. Nas made such a wavy joint right here and I love the message behind it. 40-16 Building vs *Motion* Another no contest, it's Motion here. When Motion came on, I must've started driving like 10 mph faster in the whip 😂 This track knocks like crazy. I do like 40-16 Building tho cause that knocks too, and I really like this track. It's just that compared to Motion, it's no match Hollywood Gangsta vs Bokeem Woodbine Another super tough one. I absolutely love both of these tracks, so I'm tempted to call it a push once again. If you twist my arm, I *probably* lean Bokeem Woodbine, but it isn't by much and my choice may switch in an hour or so. So imma leave it as a push for now *Wu For the Children* vs Earvin Magic Johnson I like EMJ, probably more than most, but it's absolutely *NO MATCH* for Wu For The Children. There's something sublime about that Wu For the Children. EMJ is more turn your brain off music, while Wu for the Children makes me reminisce about *my* life and all the things that did or didn't happen. A special moment on the original Magic, so I gotta to with that one. I've literally wound down all the windows in my car, hit the highway with Wu For The Children blazing and just sat there in deep thought, always ending with a major smile on my face afterward reflecting on the things that didn't happen, APPRECIATING all the things that did and being GRATEFUL for how things have turned out and where I am in my life. Special when a track can do that for you. This is probably the biggest body bag of any of these track by track comparisons Wave Gods vs *What This All Really Means* This is a close match up, but I have to go with What This All Really Means. Wave Gods took time to grow on me, but I loved What This All Really Means on my first listen. Clearly inspired by Can It Be All So Simple, (one of his favorite quotes), this song again hits with the retrospection that I enjoy greatly *The Truth* vs Slow it Down I really like Slow it Down, excellent penultimate track on the album, but come on, it's The Truth here. It's not a body bag victory, but it is decisive in my book Dedicated vs *Pistols On Your Album Cover* Now this *IS* a body bag, it's Pistols On Your Album Cover HANDS DOWN and it's not even close. You can say this is the best song on the album and I wouldn't argue with you, and the last bar on the album sends it out with a major bang. On Dedicated, Nas and Hit Boy go to their go to play (the beat switch) and it provided a cool moment to end Magic, but Pistols On Your Album Cover takes the album out with 2 guns up blazing. Great track, great closer and I would argue, one of Nas best songs with Hit-Boy, right up there with Thun and Store Run. So for me, if you exclude the 2 pushes (which I would give both to the Magic 2 joints if forced) I STILL have Magic 2 edging Magic 4 to 3. Incredible body of work. Like you, I still believe that KD3 is their best project, we'll see how this album grows on me, but I do believe that Magic 2 is their 2nd best project, followed by Magic, KD2 and then KD1. Regardless of how you place them, Nas and Hit-Boy are 5/5. I know many purist are still clamoring for a Premo or Alchemist collab, but I'm off it personally. What these 2 have is truly inspirational and *Magic*al, just keep making music together. Nas, after all these years has FINALLY found his Just Blaze, his Scott La Rock, his Eric B., his Premo, his Havoc, and I say they should continue cranking these out for as long as they want Anyway, nice review as always, I'm always on the look out for your vids homey!

@@hip-hophistorybuff I enjoyed the production from KD2 and loved it on Magic and KD3. KD1 is an okay album, but I can tell it is earlier production due to "Hit Boy" tag line in the appearing at the beginning of every track. I do not actually like when producers do that sort of branding. It happens a lot less in KD2, so I am glad we moved past that phase of Hit Boy. And just so I am clear, I have no issue with a producer getting credit for their work, but leave it in the liner notes. Producers like DJ Premier never had to leave a tag line in their beats, because you knew who it was by their unique sound.

@@hip-hophistorybuff 100% agree. I loved Magic, KD1, KD2, and KD3. But the production is weak throughout this project despite Nas’s strong lyrical display and rapping

@@MrASAPAB The production didn’t hit me as hard when I first heard it but it did grow on me. He raised the bar really high with KD2, Magic and KD3 back to back. Especially Magic and KD3

It gets better the more you listen to it. But that’s like most of his albums.

Ok Nas we have been patient while you tried to appeal to women, children and f-boys. Now can we get a Westside Gunn executive produced or curated album while the wave is hot? 🙏 🙏🙏

Lol bro. I wouldn’t mind a westside gunn executive produced project either. As long as Nas would stay inspired. And we gotta be real, Gunn has just as many F boys listening as Hitboy. Lol.

@@hip-hophistorybuff there is f-boys in every group. But to act like Westside, who has a tiny sliver of fans compared to these pop industry fans that think Kanye invented the soul sample being in the millions. You might want to rethink the "just as many" line. Not even close bro. It's like a Zombie Apocalypse movie out here 🧟♂️🧟♀️🧟

@@b-boycastertroy I mean he’s not as known I’ll give you that, but there are still Griselda heads who are ignorant to the music that inspired Griselda. The ultimate test might be if I did a ranking of Gunn albums, and then take a look at the comment section lol.

Westside Gunn should never touch a Nas album period. Maybe Nas featured on a Westside joint would work. But those empty ass slow skeleton beats won’t ever be better than this. Hitboy has taken this to a new level. Griselda beats won’t work for Nas.

@@Rayrondon162 Yeah you have no clue dawg. It wouldn't be Gunn rapping or using Griselda type beats. It's Gunn's ability to craft any album that fits the MC. But you guys got him over some goofy industry sound bs. When Gunn would curate something better than this. Hit Boy just thinks he can't miss right now and Nas is to rich and thinking about Legacy to care.
