Never Change, Song Cry, D’evils, dead Presidents 2, public service announcement, Marcy me, streets is watching, meet the parents, don’t know what’s not to like. Another thing about Jay which is not talked about is how revealing he actually is. His discography is a journey of his life. You can literally tell at which phase of his life he’s in by an album or a particular string of his albums. You learn about him, even through his mistakes. It’s quite astonishing to those who take the time to really listen to him and take in what it is he’s saying.

Nobody would sign him before, so Dame and him started their own label and got hot enough for Def Jam to come in and partner with him in 1996. So once he got sign, he had some leverage, such as his own label, but Def Jam was getting most of the money, but he got more than the average new artist.

I can definitely tell you that. Jay is the better more clever, natural rapper than Nas. It's effortless for him. Jay has waaaay more universally accepted classic songs, features and moments than Nas and he's obviously had more impact on the culture than Nas. Reasonable Doubt is also a BETTER album than illmatic. Jay has the superior catalogue as well.

It's always an excuse for Nas fans every time someone gives it up for Jay. You guys have an inferiority complex when it comes to him. It's like you KNOW he's obviously the guy and has been the guy since like '98 and you can't handle it lol. Nas is not better than Jay lyrically. You just prefer his subject matter. And he doesn't have the better catalogue. He hasn't had more impact on the culture than Jay either. It really isn't close. They are only mentioned in the same sentence because of the battle. He made me want to write, he made me want to think, he made me want to be versatile, he made me want to be creative, he made me want to be bold and have integrity. I remember listening to him as kid, and he had a song talking to the president, I was thinking, “Wow.” He made me react like this so many times, with so many different, creative songs…from all different angles
