Man…those people have food and water? What the hell went so wrong?
@TheReykjavik
19 күн бұрын
Yes, they have food and water. And they have enough room on another ship that is already up there to come down if they need to, the plan I've heard for if they had to leave right now would be to either use starliner in spite of the risks, or to put two extra people into the cargo area of a SpaceX dragon, which also has some risks because they don't have seats for that many people, so they need to figure something out for strapping in safely. They can stay where they are, right now they have two options for getting home, they will only have one option for getting home once starliner is sent back down, but neither of those is as safe (or as comfortable) as the plan to bring them home on the next SpaceX dragon which they will send up with two empty seats. As for what went wrong? Boeing built an unreliable spacecraft, that needs more work to become reliable. We didn't know how unreliable it was until we flew it on this test flight, once it got into space it had enough minor problems that NASA decided not to rely on it to get astronauts home. This is a pretty normal part of testing a new vehicle, you build it as best you can, you test as much as you can on the ground, but we don't know how it will actually go until you actually operate the vehicle. Sometimes it goes without problems, sometimes it has minor problems that don't cause a change in plans, sometimes it has minor problems that make us change our plans, sometimes it explodes. We are in the third category, and NASA is adapting appropriately.

Remembering Bob Newhart NASA calling Boeing space crew Can you hear me? Good How are you doing? You want to come home Oh We want that too and we been discussing it We do have a few questions Here goes Do you have any duck tape with you. The real stuff ,not the Chinese copycat stuff. No, well that too bad ,but no matter What about Flexi seal. You know the stuff in the can that you spray on Yes that is right, like the guy in the rowboat with the screen floor No , you did not think to bring that What about Krazy glue, the glue in the tiny bottle with the pin in the cap. Surely one of you must have that No, too bad. Well do either of you two chew gum? Yes gum Like old fashioned kind like bazooka chewing gum. You left it back on earth. Ok we will go back to the drawing board but in the mean time what do you want for Christmas?

A half hour of participation trophies. Golly, Boeing worked hard and NASA worked hard. Both worked late nights, weekends, diligently. NASA spent how many billions and how much did Boeing get paid to deliver and they cannot deliver. Is this another example of fascist public -private “cooperation “ AKA revolving door of employment causing conflicts of interest and clouding decisions. NASA has become a national embarrassment.
