Since the Gen 7 car debuted for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, short-track racing has suffered. There's been limited to no passing. This past weekend's race at Martinsville was no different. Since William Byron took the checkered flag for his third win of the season, everyone has been talking about the ugly racing product witnessed at The Paper Clip.
On Tuesday, NASCAR Senior VP of Competition Elton Sawyer talked about Martinsville and addressed the short-track product and plans to fix it. Unfortunately, his responses were embarrassing because the sanctioning body finally acknowledged it's been pursuing the wrong fix all this time, and then suggested they find a solution similar to the Bristol tire, which isn't good because Goodyear doesn't have a clue what happened.
