man that 97 team was special. if Kurt and Fennig continued to work together, Jimmie wouldn't have 6

Pidgeot No they weren't. The 97 wasn't in the same league as the 24 & 48. The only reason he had a shot was because of the ridiculous Chase format.

Gees 57 guys qualified for this race alone You don't see that many guys qualifying for races like this anymore. It has to be the 500 to see that many guys attempt to race.

+Ben Davis Nascar at its best. I can still get excited watching these old races. This was when it was peaking it started going downhill shortly after this. There was not an empty seat in the place. They didn't have to cover full sections of seats with cheap billboards. 57 cars qualified to race because there was still money in the sport companies wanted to invest in even the small teams because they would still get noticed. But Brian France each year added new rules to gain more fans and did nothing but lose more and more and blame it on the financial crisis in the country instead of himself changing the sport we love every single year. I honestly can't remember a year in recent memory that they haven't added a new rule or tweeked a rule to "make racing better" and " more exciting for the fans" that ended up just making things worse and made them lose more fans more sponsors and more race teams. So sad.

+Olee 2014 gen 6 car was the only year something new showed promise and produced some really great racing. 2015 they changed the rules package for the car and we've gotten some of the most boring racing I've ever seen. Hopefully the downforce change next year makes things better but I doubt it.

This was the race that began a new era for NASCAR television viewing. The Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, & the Richmond fall race were broadcasted in high definition. But every NASCAR Cup race has been televised in HD, starting with the 2004 Ford 400.

That Travis Kvapil wreck is why Penske doesn't have 3-4 teams in Cup anymore. lol

+Ben Davis why's that haha I couldn't figure out why you said that because it cost money and he just wrecks? Penske was in a bad slump for a while and lost some sponsors and wasn't getting many wins at all until Brad joined them. Love Penske now though. I'm a HUGE Gordon fan but my favorite organization is Penske Brad and Joey are 2 of the most promising young drivers I love how much heart they put into every lap and that's why they rub a lot of drivers the wrong way they make you fight for every position they give up it's refreshing to see these days I honestly am reminded a lot of Earnhardt when I see Brad and Joey race it's funny that ppl call them stupid but Earnhardt and drives from the good ol days were praised for driving the way those 2 drive.

NBC show's Greg Sacks crew chief as Bob Cidone, Racing reference has Greg Guarry. Who was the actual crew chief?
