The Kevin Harvick episode of Dale Jr. Podcast he admitted to it. He straight up said after a red flag at Auto Club all 4 of his tires were flat. Not sure if that was when he was in the 4 car or 29 though.

Nascar is not a racing organization anymore. They're an entertainment organization. During the Phoenix championship race, NBC showed a picture of Rick Hendrick in the 5 pit box and Roger Penske in a private suite. And I said, whichever one of them gives NASCAR the most money under the table and kisses NASCAR's ass the most will win the championship.
@DDS029

It's not money under the table. It's overt. Toyota should be dominant except their teams shoot themselves in the foot. Have you noticed how anytime NASCAR uses a car to show examples of things, it's a Toyota? How much Toyota has advertising at the track? When a track doesn't make their own deal for pace cars, it's Toyota's? AND the blatant call out and downright commercial pointing out the Toyota pace car? Toyota spends more money in and with NASCAR than GM and Ford (probably combined), and until next year they only really spent that money on virtually one team in the Cup series. (Sure, 23XI is a totally independent team.) JGR is such a closed society, Legacy MC wants everything JGR gets, BUT they want to work independently from JGR because of fears of getting inferior equipment, if it's through them.

I would say these tires would have holes in them enough to keep the tire pressures consistently the same, because, teams are allowed to adjust the air pressure in the tires, the only difference is that, a tire with no holes will build up pressure over a run because that heat building up has no where to go, I don't think people understand just how much of a cheating type of thing that goes on into drilling little tiny holes. This not just keeps the actual psi at a consistent level, but also, this releases heat that's built up inside the tire, causing the tires to stay cooler, and creating even more grip.

Drilling the holes in the tires seems counterintuitive . Sprint cars run bleeders on the tires to keep the pressure at a certain psi. And Nascar is saying that if release of air from the tire building up from the cycle of the run is dangerous.Its dangerous to let the build up of air which would give the drivers a worse handling car. They kept saying advantage and all while say a better performing tire.
@DDS029
10 ай бұрын
It's not a controlled situation, the way some teams would do it. When does someone go one step too far? Also the the tire pressures are much higher than on Sprint cars. If the pressures start up were they belong, there isn't as much heat build-up. Thus not as much pressure buildup. Like in your second sentence. It's more for keeping the pressures consistent and PREDICTABLE.

That's not the point. By altering the the integrity of the parts that go on the car, you open up a can of worms about the safety aspect. It's as plain as day in the rule book, you are not allowed to tamper with the part, as delivered by the manufacturer.
@The_Walnoys

wait, nascar has a rule for tire pressure?
@JohnDoe-vh4rt
10 ай бұрын
If Goodyear is like Michelin, then they specify a minimum tire pressure, for safety. When the tire pressure gets too low, the sidewall of the tire does too much flexing, which will cause it to fail resulting in a blowout. If there is no minimum pressure requirement, then the advantage of a slowly leaking tire is that you can start the run at a safe pressure and end the run at a lower pressure that has maximum grip. If you kept the tire pressure as low as the max grip level, the tire wouldn’t last a full run because max grip is at such a low pressure that the sidewall is basically destroying itself. The slow leak allows you to enter that high grip/high destruction phase for only the last few laps of a run. -Former racing tire engineer
@DDS029

Goodyear has a minimum "recommend" pressures, and it's "highly recommended" that you do not go below them. That also is the tire pressures the car is set to when going through inspection. It's not the pressures that get the teams penalized. It's tampering with the tire, wheel, and/or valve stem and cap. These parts are to be used as received from the manufacturer, with no modification. Many parts are subject to the same criteria. Use as manufactured.

teams cant control the pressures during the middle of the run and poking holes in the tires would lead to more grip throughout the run bc it leaks out air

You are not allowed to ALTER the construction of the tires, wheels, or air delivery parts (valve stems and caps), as provided by the manufacturer. In essence, you are purposefully damaging the parts, thus the manufacturing standards have been compromised.

just another example of how nascar says they're the only one who can be shady with the rules.. the whole thing is rigged..
@DDS029
10 ай бұрын
The problem is it's not rigged. It's too well regulated. Their isn't enough wiggle room in the rules to allow for figuring out before your competition figures it out. That's where the innovators lived. In the grey areas. NASCAR could always tighten up a rule if safety, cost, or not being within the "spirit" of the rule, becomes an issue.

He didn't "just up and start running good". Besides small things can make a big difference quickly. (example: Brad K's influence on RFK. Chris B. winning three in a row also says you CAN "get good" real fast if things go your way.) If you can start up and all of a sudden run bad, why can't the opposite happen? Back in my racing days I had crazy peaks and valleys, and there was no outside influence I could see causing it. Stuff happens. Good and bad.
