A couple of times in Vietnam we were served Horse at the chow hall back in the 70's because there was a meat shortage. It is not to bad but you need to cook it to med to med well because it is bloody but it is very lean with a decent taste of course they were making burgers and meat loaf most of the guys did not know and I did not have the heart to tell them what they ate. I know because I am a country boy and could tell the difference. Nathan remember that the Russian meals limit preservatives and so they tend to use a lot more fat and grease to preserve with than we do in the US Thank you for NOT telling Phil what it is until after he had the horse! That was the type of true answer and taste response I have been asking for. Great job guys. Keep it up

Thanks for your service. My father also served in Vietnam and said there were times when food couldn't be brought in and you would eat whatever was available and be grateful for it. I think I would take horse meat over the S. Vietnamese rations that were shared with him, or the dog meat some of the locals sold in sandwiches.

@@charlestaylor253 I actually have! I thought it was hilarious back about '71 or so I went into the chow hall for lunch. Everyone was saying how bright a color they were and how they did not think it was beef, maybe buffalo. I just kept my mouth shut. Being an old farm boy I knew right away what were were eating and I am sure 1/2 the battalion would have lost it right there at the tables if I told them. The only thing I ever said was the following day to a couple of the grunts ...I asked them if they knew why cowboys never name their horses..smiled and walked away. Still don't know if they ever got it. Thank you for your service my brother. as you know never ask questions you might not want to know the answer to

From my experience up here, deer meat but scaled up makes horse meat. That includes the taste variables changing. Moose though, that's where we reach the goal, creamy stew of moose and potatoes and I'm in heaven, the fresher the better mm mm. Love horses but their meat isn't very universally able to make food with, it's best masked like that, put in lasagna or whatnot.
