Only english speakers are offended when french people dont speak english. I'm french, and if I go to spain I'm not expecting them to talk french. If I go to Sweden I'm not expecting them to speak french. What is wrong with you Americans ? You're in a foreign country, don't talk english and expect them to make the effort to understand you. You make the effort, like everyone else in this world.

+Oscar Azgriel English was accepted a long time ago by an international community, a few international organizations and a science community as its working or official language, so its not really the same as French. People who work in places that interact with tourists are expected to know at least a few words in English so they can provide an efficient service. BTW its not my first (or second) language either.

I love also how he disagreed with her experience of trying to speak the language in France. His portrayal was so funny. He's just naturally hilarious! It's great how he's not afraid to make fun of himself. It really takes someone comfortable in their own skin to poke fun at themselves. 😂

Did you ever think that just maybe she chose that attire on her own?! Maybe she wore that attire for a fashion statement connected to a social movement of some sort. Or maybe she bought that outfit to support a designer friend of hers. OR MAYBE she's Natalie fucking Portman and you're a nobody! Yeah, I think that's it. Now get off your ass and go read a book!

Nerdy Broski thats a horrible thing to say. natalie portman is not worth any more than anyone else just because she's famous. other peoples opinions matter no less than hers. because in the end we all are equal human beings. being famous doesn't make you some sort of god. so if that person doesn't like her dress that is as much of a valid opinion as natalie's or anyone elses. and by the way, i don't mind natalie (even though her acting is far from great.. she's like a pretty plank of wood) but that dress looks like a towel she wrapped around herself. her hair is amazing though.

Exactly!! We just hate the clichés, stereotypes but we love your way of life, liberty, patriotism and hospitality! I go in the US each year and I am always welcomed by everyone. But so many people over there have stereotypes about us...like if we lived in the 60s yet. But whatever I love your country!
@buzzardbeatniks
9 жыл бұрын
You should lighten up. Maybe that's why one of the cliches about the French is that they have no sense of humor. We Americans have loads of terrible cliches about us, but most of us just roll with it and can even sometimes see when there is truth behind them.
@minizteck91
9 жыл бұрын
We have humour in fact I really laughed watching this video, I wasn't targeting this video in particular. lt's just like yesterday I was watching tv and it was an american movie (don't remember the movie). The characters were in Paris and so here come the accordion (almost nobody listen to accordion in France) and the references to Jeanne D'arc or to the beret. I'm not saying here that french are better but just that everything would be better if both countries were trying to do some efforts :)

I heard that from Americans. Obviously you won't say like that "why don't the french like us" but when I ask them some stereotypes about French people they say 95% of the time (amongst other things) that they think French don't like Americans.

+Eselfar That's true. But there's exceptions. I'm a Frenchman but I've learned English at the mere age of five. I've always lauded and loved English. I'm pretty fluent in English now. I had the highest grades in English from primary school until college. I developed a complete ease at speaking English, talking, writing in English. When I talk with English-speaking people, most of them are very surprised by my abilities. I also crafted the accent, with whom I talk with when I'm speaking English but the American accent for me is easier, less heavier and more fluid. I can now switch from French to English very swiftly.

Steve Zissou Of course not everyone is like that. :) But it does seem the french love their country a little bit too much at the expense of others, maybe? ;). When I tried speaking (simple, but correct) french, some people would reply in English (in a not so nice tone), and when I try speaking english, they'd reply in French, haha. Jimmy's anecdote isn't that uncommon, to be honest. Slight error in pronunctiation and some people act as if they don't understand.
@manonhelene4419

Sjekster I'm french and I'd like to say something to you all... I understand why we can seem a lillte bit arogant or rude to you but just to be clear yes we are very proud of our country and our culture (yes maybe too much I don't know...) but don't put all the french people in the same category as rude people... you don't know us. I also want to explain something to you : french is a very dificult langage to learn and to speak and sometimes we just don't undersand you and yes just because of a slight error in pronunctiation so don't be mad when we reply in english we just think that it may be easier for you... I speak english so I understand Jimmy's anecdote but "adaptor" isn't a french word the real one is "adaptateur" so no I wouldn't understand either.

Manon Hélène Exactly! When a tourist ask me something I always answer in English, because I can, and I don't expect them to learn French just so they can come to Paris. And French people may seem rude, but it may also be because of the way we speak, to everyone, you're just not used to it. And in Paris a lot of people are busy and don't have time to figure out what you're trying to say. Even if you spoke French, a lot of people would answer quickly and in a kinda rude manner just because they don't have time to waste. Anyway, don't take it personal!
