I have to say your tagalog is pretty good already mr. Thanks for showing interest in our dialects! A little tip, sometimes our taglish (tagalog/english) resembles the sounds of an English-speaking hispanic person in America. The consonants (like the "r") are mostly stressed and our words are usually delivered by syllables (very similar to japanese and other asian languages) we rarely use the schwa sound with vowels. (Unless ur speaking to a call center agent) anyway, keep it up sir! Thanks for this video :)

@@SelwynClydeAlojipan oi nagpakaknowlegeable haha, of course alam ko filipino and English are termed languages, and the rest spoken in different parts of our country are dialects. These are what we can speak.. so i said normally people in provinces can speak 3... so that are filipino and English (languages), and the dialect/ native tongue of the area.

Cebuano/Bisaya speakers normally refuse to learn and speak Tagalog, because they have this inborn disdain and anger as to why Tagalog was chosen as the national language of the Philippines and not Cebuano/Bisaya. They always complain why they are being forced to learn Tagalog, while the Tagalog natives are not forced to learn Cebuano/Bisaya. This is why when you go to the South and speak Tagalog to the locals there, they reply back in English even if they understand Tagalog. They say they would rather learn English than Tagalog.

An interesting phenomenon! Each language is important
@cherrie_31415
Жыл бұрын
Though, acc. to wiki (article: Filipino Language), during the creation of wikang pambansa "national language" (not to be confused with the official languages used during that time, Spanish and English), the representatives for each major language had a surprisingly greater number of Visayan languages. One of the reasons for choosing Tagalog over Bisaya was that there were too many variations of Bisaya to be used as a base for a standardized language. Maybe this is not a well-known fact. I may be from Cebu. I don't have much experience on if locals reply in English rather than Tagalog. But consider me part of the English rather than Tagalog or even Bisaya group as that was how I was taught and how I grew up.
@origenjerome8031
Жыл бұрын
@cherrie_pie4336 I agree, Cebuano can really be confusing. For example, a bird is called langgam in Cebuano, which refers to an ant in Tagalog. And Cebuanos call ants as "amigas" which in Tagalog actually means female friends (taken from Spanish roots). And you cannot say to a Cebuano, "Nakakaboring naman dito, tara mag libang muna tayo!" Filipinos today raise their children to speak in English. Even their yayas talk to their wards in Baby English (a variation of Bardagol English). Filipinos even train their dogs in English, and they give them English names rather than Filipino names. So you no longer hear dogs named as "Tagpi" or "Bantay", but instead, they call them Brownie, Chloe, or Spotty. Nearly all public signages in the Philippines are in English, rather than Tagalog, like "No Parking", "Post No Bill" (when i was young i thought Post No Bill meant the electric post lighting was not being charged by Meralco), etc. I once asked a friend to translate the sign "Garage Sale" into Tagalog. She answered "Ukay Ukay".

Nate, you do not speak Tagalog. What you speak is Filipino, They are not one and the same... same as Filipinos do not speak American English but their own Filipino English dialect.. If you did not learn Tagalog in Tagalog speaking provinces or communities, then what you have learned is Filipino, our National Language.
