With a career that began in the middle of the Napoleonic era, Niccolò Paganini inaugurated the model of a virtuoso who would dominate the international scene in the first half of the 19th century. His 24 Caprices for Solo Violin, published in Milan in 1820, are a monument to violinist literature and an inexcusable point of reference for later composers. At the same time, his figure would inspire violinists-composers as shown in Nathan Milstein's Paganiniana, a collage based on original motifs of the famous Genoese violinist (among others, his very recognizable "Caprice No. 24").
