@@dasdovian7785 I don't think Crossfit filled the hole. It's really a niche community and you dont see the crossfit championships on mainstream networks. Plus Crossfit has a lotta flaws for being a less han 25y/o fitness sport

I watched the national aerobics championship from '86 on, & finally participated in the '90 Reebok ------I was far outclassed, but it was fun to compete anyway.------IMO------hands-down--------Joan Wenson was THE best, ever, male or female. No one was ever better. Indeed, IMO, she had been robbed in '88, & easily could have won in '89, although Tinaj Milwarn WAS really good, I still thought Joan was better both years. She took the 1st World Championship easily in '91 ,. & was by then, recognized as best ever, by many of us. ------------MJL< 76 y/o

I graduated college in 1987. Yes we definitely did aerobics!!!! At my gym I did aerobics class, stair master, weights and mat work 3-4 times a week. It was much easier to be fit with a lean muscular body due to nutrition as well! Food was so much more healthy.

Joan Wenson is the one that stood out to me the most from the 1988 video, because of the way she mugged for the camera in the opening. In the 1989 opening she also stands out a lot in the crowd from her enthusiasm.

Brenda's Body Shop in Oakland, MD, is still going. Brenda still runs it. It amused me as Oakland is kind of a remote, dinky town in the far western part of the state (very pretty, though) and I didn't expect a top-class athlete to come from there. Got proved wrong and reminded me to not be a snob!

Reebok has been around since the end of the 50s and was a major sports band in the late 70s in the US. The 80s definitely made Reebok a household name and with aerobics especially!

13:19 my quads are burning, shins snapping just thinking about that hold with another human weighing over 100 lbs. All that and doing a crunch. I get destroyed by zerchers and front squats, but they seem like nothing compared to the intensity of these routines. Not sure why people are making fun of this competition. I'm all for the 80s and 90s glory
