US National Championships Master’s 45-49
This weekend I was in Augusta, GA for the Master’s National Championships. I raced both the Road Race and the Criterium, today’s video is the Crit.
I raced Nationals last year and was 31st and obviously disappointed. I had high expectations of myself this year and came into the event on good form.
The crit course is a standard 4 corner crit with no elevation, reasonably wide turns and decent pavement. It was going to be fast, and I wanted to patrol the front, cover attacks, and work the lead-out for the team in the final.
This field was STACKED, at least 10-12 guys with a legit chance to win and many former National Champions. My plan was to look for the right breakaway any time after min 10, if one were to go and or if it was still together with 2 laps to go, to send a solo attack with whatever was left in the tank.
I felt great today and want to give props to my coach, Luke Chronister, for writing a plan that has transformed me over the last 2 years.
In the end, this was a hard race, holding position was difficult and while it did end in a bunch sprint, I simply did not have the ability to send a solo attack. I crossed the line 19th and am pleased with the finish.
Enjoy the video & thank you for watching. I have one more weekend of racing at Gateway Cup in St. Louis this weekend. Stay tuned for 4 more Crit Videos!
