The homeless problem isn't the problem, the violent ,unpredictable drugged up druggies living on OUR streets is the problem. I've been attacked by them.. Whether this was an unprovoked attack, as it appears to be, or not, an armed defender legally carrying a firearm could have prevented a senseless death. The clearly confined area of this crime’s location would have presented a bare minimum danger to bystanders; a well trained, prudent, cautious CCW carrier could have ‘persuaded’ the armed attacker to break off contact, hopefully sparing his life. Too bad that getting a license is so difficult in California, and so aggressively discouraged by our lawmakers (e.g., SB2). Additionally, the non-permissive environment in Southern California urban areas presents social risks and challenges for those who choose to be better prepared to defend themselves and innocent fellow residents.

@@jaymez858Yes, it takes about that long to get through the entire process. However, the practical usefulness of having a license could be in question. If SB2’s draconian sensitive areas clause is allowed to go into effect after it’s reviewed by the courts in April, your license would be almost entirely useless. I doubt that clause will withstand scrutiny, but weirder things have happened.

@@DDuck777 There are levels, and some of us are lucky enough to be able to choose where we live, to varying degrees. There are many places in the U.S.A. with a very low crime rate, perhaps even lower than your current place of residence. The problem I see with your post is that you've judged a _whole country_ on the basis of some problematic areas. Should I judge the entirety of the U.K. on the basis of Cardiff's crime statistics? Cardiff doesn't sound like a place I'd want to live; maybe the U.K. isn't all you're cracking it up to be... Cardiff, Wales crime rate: 104 crimes per 1000 people, 35 violent crimes per 1000. San Diego, CA crime rate: 23 crimes per 1000 people, 4 violent crimes per 1000. Of course, this info comes from different sources. The methods used to categorize a crime as "violent" are different. I wouldn't be surprised to also learn that the definition of "crime" differed. Even so, the contrast between Cardiff and San Diego is striking. I am cherry-picking data here; I did a search for "most dangerous city UK", and picked the first entry from the list, which was Cardiff. San Diego doesn't even make the top 25 for the U.S. But my point still stands: crime isn't evenly distributed. Even within San Diego there are areas of low crime, and areas of high crime. There are places within San Diego I'd be okay with lettings kids run around unsupervised, and places I'd want to keep the kids locked up.

@@warpedweirdo I suppose it's the gun crime that scares me, yes the UK has knife crime but it's much easier to pull a trigger than sticking someone with a knife. @warpedweirdo

@@DDuck777 I understand. Living someplace for a while acclimates a person to the various threats of the area. I've lived in San Diego my entire life. I hear gun shots all the time. People get injured, die. But I've experienced zero violent crime, and my perception is that I'm in very little actual danger. I walk about with little fear for my safety. I live close to the border with Mexico. People I know talk about their regular visits to relatives, bars, for food, fishing, vacations, retirement, whatever. I admit that I'm fearful for my safety when I think about venturing into Mexico. I've heard about corrupt cops, strange handling of collisions, cartels, and Montezuma's Revenge. So I've entered Mexico only 2 times in my entire life. I know my trepidation is irrational but, even so, I have no plans or desire to visit anytime soon. I certainly don't want to live there. Humans are horrible at judging risk. A person might be deathly afraid of being shot by a raging lunatic on the highway. It *could* happen. But will it? At the same time, this fearful person routinely accepts the far, far greater risks of driving in general. Which is a person more likely to experience while driving: a road-raging lunatic shooting at people, or a life-ending collision? We each make the choices we're most comfortable with. Being human, comfort often has little to do with rationality.
