How many HOURS into fixing this receiver now? One guy on a blog said he had 100 hours into
fixing his HRO 500? I am sure I have exceeded 100 hours by now. Easy.

I am trying to get this receiver to a state of "normalacy"
Meaning - it operates closely to how it worked when new.
I would like to put in 7.0 Mhz on Band 3 and have it accurate on the Synch indicator
in the front window - turn the preselector to 7.0 Mhz and it LOCKS and just works.
Same for 20 meters and 17 meters.
And for WWV on 5 Mhz, 10 Mhz 15 Mhz.
YES. These wishes and needs are finally fulfilled. I can get dependable and repeatable
action on bands 3 and 4.
Band 5 is working but not calibrated and way off.
Same for Bands 1 and 2. But they all work somewhat.
The bands are broken up into 3 coils. One coil handles bands 1, 2 and 5
One other coil for band 3
The last coil for band 4.
The band 3 coil had a cracked hex slug from the previous owner.
Put in a new slug and was able to calibrate band 3
Basically and per the HRO 500 manual - start at the LOW part of the band
and adjust the coil to be on frequency.
Go to the high part of the band and adjust the padder / trimmer capacitor for frequency..
Do this about 5 times repeated and the readout of the Synth will be accurate.
I can NOT accomplish this on bands 1,2 and 5 as I have that coil slug
at the bottom of travel and I still need the slug to go down.
Maybe I can remove the slug?
Or maybe the wring for the HF freq band switch is wrong as I did not implement the
BACK SIDE of the HF band switch for frequency.
The first wafer on the band switch from the front is the HF frequency decision wafer.
The next wafer back is the LOADING or resonance wafer for the untuned buffer
transistor.
The untuned buffer transistor takes input from the HF VFO and buffers it, stabilizes it
and probably amplifies the HF oscillator for use in the Synch Mixer and for injection for the receiver.
