National dialogues are a frequently used tool in contemporary peacemaking processes and have taken place in Sudan, Yemen, Bahrain and the Central African Republic. In this discussion, Dr Katia Papagianni examined under what conditions can we realistically expect them to contribute positively to ending a conflict and paving the way to a political transition?
