I'm pick up this bad boy for forty euros. First telescope, to see if I can get into it. Thanks for posting this video :) Very helpful!

Hi, I have one of these, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to see things properly. Everything seems to be upside down, back to front. Any advice on how to use this so that I can actually see what I want? Thanks

@Tazzy4182: That's normal. Some telescope designs (such as reflectors) give an inverted image and some "flip" the image horizontally (such as SCG/Maksutov designs). You can buy an "erecting prism" to place between the eyepiece and the telescope and these will give you a correctly oriented view.

Thanks for doing this video. It would have been great with a little more info on what to expect plant observation-wise. My son received this as a present one Christmas (used), but the planets just appear as bright elongated smudges. I wasn’t expecting much but still I would expect a little more definition. I wonder if it can be tweaked somehow for better performance outside of getting a better eyepiece. Thanks again!

Can you do a video and show us of how the planets look

Thank you for the review, Allan. I have a similar setup - the EclipseView 82/350 tabletop dob from Meade and its pretty ok. I have issues with chromatic aberration and coma at high power (10/9 mm) so much so it seems to have lost collimation. but i face no such issues with a low power (20/25 mm Kellner/Plossl). Does the NGC scope have such a limitation too? I removed and fixed the primary and tried to adjust the secondary too, but nothing seems to help.

Just managed to grab one at a second hand shop for $15. Thanks for the video. It didn't come with instructions.

Any good for looking at planets? This will be my first telescope and want to start cheap 🙂

Nothing wrong with starting on a budget. This scope will certainly show you the planets, they will look like fat stars. You might get a little of the rings on Saturn on a good night.

@@AllanHall thanks so much for the reply. Ended up going with a celestron astromaster 70 and loving it so far!

The version available here doesn't have the compass and the stand with the degrees also not there. It comes with a tripod and is waaaaaaay more expensive than $50 actually many times more than $50 but given we don't have many shops selling it and shipping and all that, it's a good starting point But it comes with a solar filter

Is the mirror spherical or parabolic?
@AllanHall

At this small of a size and low price point you can just assume it is a spherical mirror. You wouldn't see any benefit to a parabolic with a 76mm aperture and the cost would make the scope unsellable.

Collimation would probably slip out of place though

With this telescope, I just see Jupiter as a white circle even at the highest magnification. I also see none of its moons. Is this normal?

@astro6393: You will need a powerful eyepiece for the planets (its the eyepiece that magnifies, not the telescope). Jupiter can be very bright so you might also need a filter to see any details on the planet and/or the moons. You should be able to see Jupiter's moons even with binoculars but they could be "overpowered" by the brightness of Jupiter.

I have one of these. Face problems in finding the right view of a planet. There is no viewfinder. Get a slight lower back pain while finding where the heck the planet is. 😁😁

So do I. :( Just taped a homemade one to the top. Not the best looking but it helps a lot anyways.

If you are thinking about buying a more expensive telescope on ebay,, don't. I bought a telescope on ebay with a tripod... Don't do it... the telescope is ok.. but in general all the bolts for the tripod legs are all striped plus tension screws for scope mobile range were stripped. So its worthless..unless I can jerry rig a mount on one of my camera tripods for the telescope.. be careful of ebay stuff. Pictures look good until you try and tighten a screw. Khols had this unit for 119.00. NOT! This video was shot on 2021,,, they still trying to get top dollar.
