Um, from my research, this ruby is worth about 5 bucks, so where are you getting your values from cause I would love to know, and I mean that. My buddy has a bunch this size and bigger that he found mining in SC. But as I said, from our research, because there is no clarity or transparency to it, it's practically worthless. So if you have better info please share. Also part of the reason we are tumbling it is to see if we can reveal any clarity. And as I said in the video, the ruby is harder than the granite so it should be fine, especially with the filler pellets in there.

How did the next batch turn out? I looked through your channel but didn’t see anymore rock videos.

Yes, I appologize for that. Sometimes when you run a youtube channel, plans change in mere days/weeks. As per the channel name, I post mostly Gun & Car content. However, I also enjoy rocks and minerals as evidenced by this video... My next batch of rocks did not turn out as expected (rather poorly), so I was reluctant to release a video of my failure. However, after much research, I learned my results were typical... They were typical because I tried to tumble random rocks from a local creek, which apparently (again, per my research) is a bad idea if you expect 100% perfect polished stones as I did. A few of the rocks, especially the white quartz mentioned in this video, turned out beautifully. A few of the granite did as well. Others, not so well (including other granites). This is where I learned about types of granite and grades of granite, as well as "inclusions" which can mess up your whole batch. Basically, some rocks are great for tumbling, and some- not so much. I typically don't recommend other channels, but Michigan Rocks is a great resource. He even did a special on granite if I recall correctly...

Have you ever had the machine stop and flash all lights? I am stuck on the 4th stage and can't for the life of me get the machine to keep running. It'll run for 10-15 mins, then stop spinning and all the lights flash red until I unplug it. :( tried adjusting the weight of the product in the barrel, no luck.

I believe that means it is overheating/too heavy. I believe that happened to me once and had to pluck out a couple rocks and dump just a little water out. If you put it in a cooler location it might keep running without doing such though.

We are on day 1 right now. Tumbler won't run more than 30 mins then it shuts off. I reset it and it runs 2 seconds and shuts off. Total junk if you ask me. I slammed it on the counter real hard and it worked for another 30 mins. So I will be bringing this back tomorrow. Very disappointed 6 year old over here right now.

I have been using mine almost without stopping it at all since I posted this video and it runs great. It has an automatic shutoff if it senses too much weight in the barrel or if it gets too hot from too much weight. It shouldn't be filled more than 2/3rds full, including the water, or it will be too heavy. If you haven't overfilled it, then I really don't know, must be defective. Mine is running right now and has been for days. Only time I had it shut off on me was when I got it a little too full. I took a few rocks out and then it was fine. Harbor Freight has 2 decent small rock tumblers for around $50 if you end up taking this one back and want to try another budget friendly one. Best of luck to you...

@@BuckeyeBallistics it's working fine now. I was going to take it back today but It ran all night and is still going. It's not overfilled or anything. When it wasn't running properly it would shut off without the barrel on it. I have no idea what was wrong with it.

Like anything, its a starter kit to get you into the hobby, and everyone's results would be different, once you become competent you could get those results you're looking for, when you know what to look for, just because it say 5-6 days doesn't mean its ready in 5-6 days, but with skill you will know when its ready for the next stage, But from what ive seen on various site the biggest problem amateurs have is they dont clean their rocks enough between stages, hosing down just isnt enough, you need to scrub and pick those rocks, just one piece of grit from the previous stage can stop the next stage from doings its job properly

I just bought one. It's my first rock tumbler. I'm waiting on grit #1 results. I put in one or two of the included rocks but mostly jasper and chert that I'd found myself. We'll see what happens. I think I'll do Borax for a few hours at the end to see if that helps. After that I'm just gonna tumble the rocks with water and let them knock some sense into each other. 😄 I don't care if they still have some sharp edges, I'd just like to see a bit more pattern and keep them as big as I can. I'm not gonna spend a lot of money on grit just to get tiny little super shiny pebbles.

Also was wondering if I need to start tumbling with the ceramic pellets as a filler. Like do I need to go ahead and add in the pellets before I do the 1st - 4th steps. I'm just wondering when I should add in the pellets.
@BuckeyeBallistics
4 жыл бұрын
When they are *new* pellets, you should run them from the beginning, because they are somewhat more coarse than say the rocks are during stage 3 for example. Now when you collect them for re-use at the end of a 4 step batch, they will be polished like the rocks are. Polished pellets you can add at any stage. But if you want to add *new* pellets, it would probably be fine to add them anywhere during stage 1, or up to halfway through stage 2. Beyond that, new pellets may scratch up already smooth rocks. Hope this helps...
