The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC (americanindian...) is well worth a visit.
If we look at the history of the United States, we are talking about pioneers, settlers, the winning of the west, to hunt fur animals and, above all, to acquire land. All seen from the perspective of the whites. But that land had been the home and hunting grounds of the Native American nations for centuries. In this museum perspective changes. You will get a lot of information about how those peoples lived and how they lost out in the relentless greed of land of the whites.
Want to know more? Watch this video! And while you're at the museum, visit by the gift shop, too. There, among many other things, you can buy Alan W. Eckert's unparalleled book, “A Sorrow In Our Heart - The Life of Tecumseh". The museum holds up a mirror to us at our era when diversity and inclusion are buzzwords, but when people are still condemned for the color of their skin.
