National NC98 Receiver purchased at Goodwill Resale store for
6 dollars can it be fixed will it work ? I saw it in another customers grocery cart and talked to the man about getting it working I thought he may be an Amateur radio operator like me or into
electronics as a hobby ? he said he had no idea what it was or what it did . I told him what it was what would most likely be required to restore it to working condition how it worked and what would be needed to get it working plus an external antenna and speaker . He said to me "you kow quite a bit about this thing do you want to buy it ?" I said yes I Sure would enjoy doing all that ! and he said ok take my cart and YOU buy it . If you happen to be this man reading this on you tube I wish to say to you THANK YOU ! I have really enjoyed working on this radio during the last week for many happy hours ...the NC98 was marked 12 dollars and it was a special half price day at Goodwill so I got it for 6 dollars .Of course I have spent a lot more money on replacement parts . In Michigan we are in the winter season here in February and I enjoyed working on this old radio for the last week staying inside while we accumulated over a foot of snow outside with very cold temperatures. We live 35 miles east of Lake michigan and the huge lake Michigan
seldom freezes over evaporating lots of moisture into the atmosphere creating what we call "lake Effect snow " which due to the prevailing westerly winds falls on our area to the east of the lake so we usually get lots of snow . I find it fascinating that the snow is composed of billions upon billions of individual snow flakes and each one is different from all the others . Nice to stay inside keeping warm and watching the snow fall with a fun project to work on . There is a tag glued on the bottom of this old radio that is torn with a partial date printed on it 194 ? something I take that to be 1948 or1949 ?
