Hey Loves! Here are some other Detangling Options: You can started off finger detangling then end with a wide tooth comb You can spritz a little water followed by a oil/butter then finger detangle Some Points: ▶In my opinion the kinkier your natural hair is the more beneficial finger detangling can be for you. ▶Finger detangling does not give you the smoothness that using a brush or comb does so please keep that in mind. Your focus with finger detangling is to just get your hair detangled not have it feel as if you just used a comb/brush. ▶Also finger detangling might not get all shed hair so in this case the option to start with fingers then end with a comb/brush can be for you. If you are going to do the option I suggest you finger detangle with oil but then apply a detangling cream or rinse out conditioner before finishing with comb/brush. Now if you are doing this on wet you dont have to worry about a detangling cream u probably already have rinse out conditioner in you hair. Hope this additional points are helpful to you.

NappyFu TV , Hi Nappyfu I want to say that I really enjoy your very detailed and inn informative videos, thank you soon much....i have a question because all the videos that I've seen from you u e never heard you say how long you've natural or shown any pics of your journey. Can you give us that information, reason is that believe it or not it helps viewers like my self to see that I'm in the right track, even though everyone hair grows at its own pace but it does help to know that on my journey I can see I'm doing something correct or incorrect.... LOVE your videos keep them coming

Same here, some "4C" labeled KZitemrs are able to just take a comb or brush and just go through it easily. When I try it on my hair, reality hit me hard. I rely on finger detangling, absolutely no tools. I began my transitioning with only using my fingers. I taught myself to finger detangle through trial & error & youtube videos, after a failed at-home relaxer that left my hair in huge matts & small knots all over my head. I transitioned for one & a half years, & have been fully natural for almost 3 years. I only finger detangle; the few times I tried a comb, I noticed breakage right away. With finger detangling, practice makes perfect. Few people will be great at it the first time around, but keep practicing & do your research! I grew my hair past mid-back length during my transition, even with cutting off the relaxed & texturized hair on a routine basis. I am now past arm-pit length with my natural hair. None of this would be possible without finger detangling. I now have thick & long hair at my edges where I used to have bald spots. Yes, my edges were snatched! I've grown hair in places I never had before--on my head! lol Your fingers are your best tools because you can feel for the knots, & you also become more in tune to what your hair needs & wants.

I used to finger detangle just like you before. However I stopped because it actually does not work very well on my hair 😕 My hair is too short, too coily and has too much shedding for this technique. Instead of finger detangling, now I GENTLY finger comb then GENTLY use a wide tooth comb (My hair is very fine and fragile) and twist. I do this on wash day, after drying my hair with an absorbing fabric and applying my moisturizing products.

I’ve decided 2021 is my year to focus more on my natural hair. I’ve been natural for almost 6 years now but I’m only just starting to realise natural hair ≠ healthy hair and I haven’t really been looking after my hair properly. It’s always either tied up in some braids/twists, or cornrowed under a wig for long periods of time with no intense TLC 😭

Hey Nappyfu I love your videos girl. I've been natural for about 2 years. I can honestly say my hair and I have a pretty good relationship. I just started wearing wigs as a means of protective styling. At first I was a little hesitant because I never wore weaves or wigs with the exception of braids. I must abmit I have been having a lot of fun with it . So much that I went on a wig shopping spree. I normally wear my natural to work.So I was not surprised by the attention I got from my clients. Most of the compliments were very thoughtful. But then I started getting statments like you look so much better with that hair or I am glad you change your hair because i did not like that frizzy hair style. This hair makes you look so classy. That last one almost made me cry but I didn't so now about to go back online to order this badass 4c. wig that I've been too cheep order and it's gonna be work wig. Ive know this comment was long but I just needed to vent thanks

2 1/2 years into my HHJ, I've changed from a regular comb to a wide tooth, then I saw one of your old videos about how you finger detangle. I tried it, great method, but I couldn't get to my roots like I wanted. Today, I finger detangle, then use a wide tooth comb. What was a NappyFu subscriber doing wrong? NOT ENOUGH SLIPI Tomorrow, back to finger detangling with Slip. Looking back, I can see the difference in our hair. You are a healthy 4C. I am a "watched all those hair videos 4B, Fine, LOC method user with dry hair that stay in twist. Struggling with the question of too much hair manipulation vs. Dryness. I researched the MHM, but overnight oil prep for slip and finger detangling may just be my answer to more moisture and hair retention. Thanks NappyFu.

Hi Nappyfu. Love coming from Barbados once again. 😊 I love finger detangling my 4c Low Density hair. My preferred oil is Castor for Pre pooing and Detangling...i don't know why but it gives my hair slip....strange....but it works for me. My hair hates coconut oil. Olive oil isn't bad but not my preferred oil. I must say my hair does seem thicker...but i believe that had to do with a few other things I'm doing besides finger detangling. 1. Prayer. 2. DIY - Fenugreek/msm/moringa oil mix 3. Protective styling 4. Finger detangling 5. Reduced comb usage(only used to part hair...and only after I've parted with my fingers). Thank you for all your videos. They are wonderful and informative. "To have healthy hair you gotta do healthy things!" My favorite line.

I'm a combination detangler but I would say that majority of the time (98%) I finger detangle. My hair gets knots and tangles SO EASY. So I am always stretching and detangling every few days. When i was natural, i used this method as my 4c hair would not allow a comb of any kind. If i didn't wash, DC, and detangle every other week, my hair became a dry matted mess. So no a wash and go was not feasible for me. Finger detangling helped a lot, and sometimes i would do it the day before wash day, so that wash day wasn't all day. I think I retained a lot of length, because I used this method. Now that i am relaxed and I stretch the relaxer for about 3 months I still do finger detangle for wash days, it's just alot faster.

I finger detangle my hair and it has been the best way to avoid breakage. I wasn't really watching KZitem when I stated my natural journey so I didn't have any help. Combing my hair really hurts so I only use a wide tooth comb after my hair is full of conditioner. I prefer to detangle and while exercising. I might look weird but idgaf cause I'm at home. I NEVER use a brush or comb. the day before wash day, I pre poo with coconut oil for 24 hours (as you suggested lol) then wash my hair the next day, but before I wash, THAT is when I pull out just the shed hairs. afterwards, I deep condition 2 hours-overnight if I'm being a lazy bum. after I wash out the DC, I immediately LOC with more coconut oil and grease or butter and finger detangle then before I cornrow my hair. I'm in protective style mode with my wigs, so I do this every 2 weeks. As a result, I have literally none to little breakage, more retention of length (I swear I lose as much hair as you do out of all 4 sections. finger detangling = LIFE!), and I feel like my hair is thicker. I kind of hate that aspect, though, cus I have to do smaller cornrows (which mean more) so my wigs will lay flat. I'll love it when my hair is out & I start doing twist outs, bantu knots, etc. I've only been doing this since April, but I do see results. I mention the time to say I move through my hair WAY slower than you lol Also, I cut and file my nails every 2 weeks to lessen the chance of snagging hairs that are growing beautifully lol that's my process, hope it helps someone! it is VERY time consuming, but your hair is only going to give you back what you give it. SO. if I don't treat my hair like a queen, this shxt will be looking like a dirty ass peasant. get me? cool lol it takes a lot, but I'm working AND getting my Ph.D. right now. If I can do it, you can do it! (I do this Friday-Sunday). Blessings ❤️ & just a quick shoutout to you NappyFu. I genuinely pray your family and loved ones are safe during this time. I stalk your Snapchat, so I know you are out of town lol but I still pray for everyone close to you who may not be as fortunate. Sincerely wishing you the best! ❤️❤️

I finger detangle only. I use organic coconut oil with cocoa tree ghee(Qhemet Biologics line) on streched dry hair, left on over night. By morning, I'm good to go with ALOT of slip. 😊

Love you Nappyfu - finger detangling has saved me, I had so much less breakage yesterday compared to when I use combs. I'm too scared to go near a brush lol😂

Gonna try the dry detangling method. I always would pre-poo then just jump in the shower and everything is good til I get to my crown. By that time I need extra oil, a denmen brush, and the staff of Moses🙁😤

I've tried to do this method but I haven't been successful, I'll try this and see if it works for me better. I thank you for this mama. 👍😀

As an atmospheric chemist, finger detangle while reading air regulations. I use a wide tooth comb when my six year old won't give me time to myself.

Another great video! I combine finger detangling with using a metal pick or my Felicia Leatherwood brush.

I fingercomb/detangle on wash days, but tend to wide-tooth comb on dry hair while moistirizing and styling between wash days. Here recently, I have increased my wash days because detangling is easier for me that way, and I tend to style with my fingers and brush my hair to direct it as needed. My hair moisture is better, and we'll see about retention.

I finger detangle. In the past I used combs, but I find using my fingers work best. I too, prefer using an oil. I add it to my roots (where most of my tangles are), and work it down. Pretty much the same way you do yours. I also have to pay attention to my ends, but I noticed that when my ends are tangled, it is time to trim.

Sudo Chic I use a distraction, while I do this process, because it does take a LOT OF patience. Watch a TV show/movie. It does help, it's like listening to music while you do chores. Happy detangling! p.s. I tend to use a cheap conditioner with lots of slip such as the V05 conditioner.

I am a combination of finger detangling and using my Felicia Leatherwood brush. Thanks for this video. I plan to wait and finger detangle the day after I put oil in my hair for my pre poo instead of finger detangling while adding oil. 💆🏾
