This style is super cute but i have a question. Why do people call black hair natural hair?
@moniqueloomis9772
Жыл бұрын
Oh my God. Google natural hair and Black hair to educate yourself. Lazy. 🙄
@TheCityDweller1
Жыл бұрын
That’s a fair question, now that I think about it. I guess it’s because chemically altering the hair is so deeply engrained in black American culture that *choosing* to wear it how it grows out of your head is a unique and on-purpose choice. Cuz for some of us, taking care of, styling, and wearing our hair natural isn’t for the faint-hearted or impatient! Lol 😅 There are levels to it, though. Some people use heat to straighten their hair and wear it so that their hair *looks* like a different texture than the one that grows out of their head naturally (nothing wrong with that, btw). So the conversation of what is “natural hair” can comprise whether or not it’s chemically altered, but also how society perceives your hair - is society seeing you wear blow-dried/not chemically altered hair like Claire Huxtable (I’m assuming she just had a blow dry), or is society seeing you wear natural hair like in this video or maybe an Afro? Everything from respectability politics to determining who is ‘wifey material’ can be intertwined with how people “receive” your natural hair. Actually Claire Huxtable is a great example; I’m curious how viewers would’ve received her character if she had a short curly Afro instead of the fluffy blow dry that looked like a shorter version of the Farrah Fawcett. Everything from her “deserving” to be a wife, her career as a lawyer, married to a doctor, perceived as poised, etc. Hair communicates a lot, and there are a lot of ways the person looking at you can interpret your hair (which is a bonkers thought, but hey). On top of that, there is a school of thought that truly wearing it natural means allowing the hair to curl into itself, which would form locs. So there are many potential layers to the conversation!

I feel like if I have to do this, then I’m forced to wash my hair the next day. Gels and me don’t get along, and my hair is similar to yours but smaller circumference of curls. I DK what it is, but after gelling my hair I get so many flakes and irritation in my scalp. I have never tried the snot though… And after using gel to style your hair, can you switch up your style the next day? How do you do that? Did you have to re-wet it?
