This video made me think about another challenge I have that I would love for you to cover in a podcast. The idea of the checklist. I find that when our lessons are languishing, or if my son is complaining, I have a tendency to say, let’s just “get through” so we can “move on” as I get impatient with his dawdling or distractions. What is an alternative mindset and several phrases I can use other that “lets just get through this”

Great video. Agreed, thought we knew a lot about birds, in our area, they eat dandelion heads that go to seed. Fascinating!

I really struggle with nature studies because I don't have any passion for it whatsoever... do you have any tips for teaching without interest?

Hi Amanda! Be comforted! There are many parents who are not interested in nature study or fear being able to "teach" it. You can begin small. Go outside with your kids for the express purpose of their noticing something. Anything. From there, simply ask your children to notice the color, size, etc. and ask them to attempt to draw the item in their nature notebook. Tell yourself that you are going to spend 10-15 minutes outside noticing things (perhaps your children pick up rocks and notice the ants moving about). Maybe you allow them to observe nature while you sit on the park bench observing them. Start small. Start simple. Don't teach. Allow them to observe and make connections. You can gradually, over time, grow from there.
