Navigating the new security landscape with a focus on the Nordic Baltic Region
Keynote address on security policy and discussion with Tobias Billström, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs
Recorded live at the Henrik Enderlein Forum, Hertie School, Thursday, 21.03.2024 | 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm (CET)
On the occasion of his official visit to Germany, Tobias Billström, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden will be hosted at the Hertie School and give a keynote address on security policy.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has experienced a paradigm shift in its security policy. On 7 March 2024, Sweden became NATO’s newest member and the 32nd country to join the alliance, a historic step for Sweden and for the alliance. With Sweden and Finland’s membership, all countries bordering on the Baltic Sea except Russia are members of the alliance, which fundamentally redraws the security map in this part of Europe. With the example of how Sweden has navigated the security landscape at a time of great upheaval, Minister Billström will share Sweden’s view on what building blocks are necessary to shape the security environment of tomorrow.
