The military academies (Navy, Army, Air Force, etc) usually don't have good football teams, mainly cause they don't recruit the same way as regular schools, you need to reach and maintain an academic standard higher than most and you have to enter military service after graduation, which is why if a military player gets drafted by nfl or nba they have to wait, i think, 2 yrs before they can play.

The reason Navy plays Notre Dame is because ND nearly went into administration during WW2 because they didn’t have enough enrollment to keep the doors open. The Navy stepped in and saved the school by using it as a training depot for ROTC. Because of this ND considers it a gentleman’s agreement and a point of honor that, so long as Navy wants to keep playing them each year, they will play Navy in Football as a thank you for keeping the school from closing. The revenue generated from this game helps fund a very large part of Navy’s entire athletic department budget.

The military academies are pretty bad at football because you have to go into military service after graduation and have extremely good grades to get in. Most players are smaller and less athletic than the average college football team, that's why they run weird triple option offenses to try and out smart their opponents as opposed to just playing them "straight up"

Notre Dame has played in Ireland I think 3 times. It use to be every 4 to 8 years since 1988. But after 2021 they made the commitment for every year. Notre Dame is an NBC favorite and Aer Lingus is a sponsor of NBC. But next years game is set to be Florida State v Georgia Tech (both ACC teams). So their is no system, I think it's just who wants to and who wants the money. Notre Dame is independent, they don't have a conference.

TV rights are for the home team, and until a couple of years back, CBS would carry Navy-ND, so the next Dublin game would air on ABC or ESPN, as that’s an ACC game The sponsor is specifically for the game and not the network, since that rotates with the “home” team

I'm a born fan of Notre Dame, and that's pretty literal. My dad started at Notre Dame at the age of 17, hit a self-admitted academic brick wall and disenrolled at the age of 22 with at least an academic year to go, but after the Army and finishing his Finance degree at St. John's in New York City, he went back for his MBA and his wife, my mom, worked in the bookstore while doing so. My sister was even baptized at the church on campus. But I have to admit they've run into a serious problem lately -- they don't tend to attract the good quarterbacks because quarterbacks don't tend to make it to the NFL from Notre Dame as often as they do Alabama or Clemson. (This despite, in my opinion, the four best QBs in the league today are from Wyoming, Texas Tech, LSU and Oregon. The best QB from Notre Dame was drafted in the third round and nobody was sure he'd make it, but Joe Montana kind of proved them wrong. /aside [FURTHER aside -- I always say that it's amusing that the two best QBs of all time came from Notre Dame and Michigan -- Tom Brady -- as the schools are massive rivals. I WILL flip the order every so often.) This year, though, Sam Hartman came in as a transfer, and I think he might break that streak as well as get Notre Dame some success. Last year they did get about 2 wins less than I expected, but 2 MORE than I would have expected from a backup QB that looked _terrified_ his first game as a starter. Then again, he won that game so there you go... I'm sure they'd make it into the expanded playoffs that ironically are coming into play next season, they're going to be a long shot for the 4 team playoff though _this_ year.

A quick break down of how the season goes. At the beginning of the season a top 25 poll is released ranking the best 25 teams in the country out of 130 or so. These change weekly based on upsets, loses, and also if a team has a subpar performance they can drop a spot or two even if they won. Some teams will even drop out of the top 25 and be ranked again as the season goes on. The big games are the highly ranked matchups and are conferences with a big rep like the SEC and Big Ten. There are usually big non-conference games early in the year. The final week is rivalry week which is fun then you have conference championship games. The last 2 weeks are a big deal as the top 4 teams get selected to play in the semifinals which are the playoffs. Teams 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 play each other for the championship in January. Enjoy the long season it’s going to be fun.

Notre Dame does have green jerseys, but they only wear them on rare/special occasions. They can go whole seasons without ever donning them. You never know when they’ll appear. Notre Dame has a ton of traditions like this. Through their success as a football team, the Fighting Irish became a beacon of hope for working class Irish/Americans throughout the 20th century. Guinness has a partnership with the Fighting Irish, and Joe Montana, who was a QB at Notre Dame, does a series of Guinness commercials that are aired during their games. Anyway, they were favored to win this game against Navy by 20 or so. The Irish and Navy have a good relationship as teams, and respect each other. At the end of their games, both teams sing their alma maters together. They did that at this game, but they don’t show it in the highlights.
