Love Jason’s analysis, except when it comes to the Lakers. Most teams are “a trade away” from being “SCARY.” My Pacers would be “SCARY” if they traded for Herb Jones, for example. The Lakers made no roster improvements this offseason. Tough to imagine AD and Bron will play as much as they did last season, when the Lakers were a play-in team that got bounced in the first round. Yet they are 8th in Jason’s power rankings.

Yeah, if they’re the eighth best team in the west, then they’re more like 12th overall. I would bet a months salary that they don’t finish with a better record than Dallas, OKC, Memphis, Denver, MN, Sacramento, Phoenix, or New Orleans. Honestly they’re 9th or 10th in the West, and well behind Boston, New York, the 76ers, and about even with Indy, Orlando, and Milwaukee. So 13th-17th.

I hate the logic behind this. It’s not even a basketball case Jason, you always say “make a basketball case.” A trade isn’t a basketball case, it lands on the side of a hypothetical fan base dream. That can be said about ANY TEAM. “The Spurs are one trade away from being a championship contender, if they can land Steph and Lebron to pair with Wemby”😂💀 Unless that “trade” happens it shouldn’t be factored into their rankings. You said it yourself when you covered the Kat & Randle trade: “Good thing we haven’t gotten into those two teams yet when this trade happened” indicates that the actual trade happening affected how you view the two teams. So let’s not let your fandom of Lebron and the Lakers get into this ranking bro😂😂

Unlike these kids, I'll tell you why having the Lakers this high is ridiculous. You want the Lakers to trade for a star. I'm not here for name calling or anything foolish like that, but you have to call a spade a spade. The east vs west comparison is foolishness solely because regardless of what, 8 teams make the playoffs from each conference. Stats don't tell the whole story, nor does only looking at a snippet from a 20-30 game stretch, while disregarding the other 50+ games. Do better bro

Austin Reaves has the worst career defensive rating for the Lakers, with a 117.3 rating, among all the lakers players in history, reaves is the worst defender..everyone is blind about this record. The Lakers are definetely closer to the lottery than a non play-in playoff spot, 8th in the west would be a reasonable take, even though i would have them at 10th in the west, but 8th overall is just crazy. The Lakers have the worst defensive starting line-up in the league, AD is a good defender, Rui is decent, but LBJ, Austin and D-Lo are 3 terrible defenders. They also have no depth at all and are one injury away from being a bottom 4 team in the west.

Availability plays a big part in being a good team and going far in the playoffs, especially when a team is more top heavy. When trying to guage this, I'd treat all players the same way, relying on whatever information we have from previous seasons. Saying Kawhi is more likely to miss games than Jokic isn't 'projecting', it's common sense. It's not a prediction or a strict statement, just an acknowledgement of an important factor. @@tiredbasketballfan I get that and agree you have to factor in the history. ok so if we’re gauging off previous seasons both Bron and AD played 70 plus games also who is your favorite team?

Bucks already got their eyes on Kuminga and Podz if things don't go right this season.

Do they? As a Warriors fan I try to be positive and hopeful about them, but I doubt the Bucks view them as a good return for Giannis. Maybe if you also include every possible draft compensation + more good role players. And then the Warriors themselves will be a 2-player team which is not ideal...

@tiredbasketballfan of course. Picks and other splayers as well. But they see the potential in Podz and Kuminga

I love lebron and I’m rooting for the lakers, don’t even think this is THAT bad a take having them 8th; but some more balanced coverage this season would be greatly appreciated. Ik they get clicks but don’t damage the integrity of your brand. Nothing but love for the show just my two cents ✊

In his defense... even though I disagree with some of his takes... I believe he is a Lakers fan. I believe in his optimism for LA. As a Mavs fan 3 years ago they were in the WCF and 2 years ago they did not make the playoffs. Going into this last season and the playoffs... I would have said the Mavs were more likely going back to the WCF then being the team that did not even make the play in... not many people felt that way after the Mavs missed the playoffs (outside of Dallas fans).... ALL of that to say.. of course a Lakers fan thinks the Lakers are closer to the WCF team than the first round exit team... especially after both years they were knocked out by the Nuggets.

But the Celtics are only that good cuz they’re op. Same with kd warriors. Winning championships would be irrelevant bus its not fair. That’s why Celtic fans care. They won but it’s not fulfilling cuz they No it wasn’t fair. Other talent has to step up to see can they really win.

Salty dudes in these comments acting like the Lakers wouldn't have smoked OKC & Dallas in the playoffs. Matchups matter & they literally went up against their worst matchup. They have consistently owned OKC, & matchup well against Dallas (at least last year) They're better than people give them credit for.
