Tyronn Jamar Lue is an American professional basketball coach and former player, currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. Previously, he served as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, guiding them to their first and only NBA championship. As a former point guard, Lue played college basketball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 1998 NBA draft with the 23rd overall pick. He was soon traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won two NBA championships in his first three seasons. Following his retirement from playing in 2009, Lue became the Director of Basketball Development for the Boston Celtics. In 2014, he joined the Cavaliers as an associate head coach and was promoted to head coach during the 2015-16 season after David Blatt was fired. That season, Lue led the Cavaliers to their first NBA championship, becoming one of the few rookie coaches to achieve this feat. He also coached the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, though they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors both times. Lue was dismissed by the Cavaliers in October 2018. He later became the head coach of the Clippers and led them to their first Conference Finals appearance in franchise history.
