Damage isn't too bad. Mostly tree damage and power lines down from the trees. At least one tree fell on a house and the storm surge did some flooding of streets near the coast. Overall dodged the bullet honestly.

If I ever become king of the world my first decree will be to bury all power lines. they are an ugly blight on the landscape and dangerous. When I lived overseas I was lucky enough to live in two neighborhoods with below ground power lines. Looks so nice.

On the coast they had some barged break free from their moorings. Some boat swamping. Rather not see it but its truely not that bad when compared to Katrina.

No. Hurricane wise this storm was way worse than Katrina. The levees failing is what swamped the city. There wasn't that much wind and rain from Katrina.

This was a good hurricane. Ida was 16 years after Katrina where 1833 people lost this life, and so far less than 10 by Ida.

In Lafayitte, another news cast stated "500 people choose not to evacuate", while a follow on newscast stated they had "near 150 calls from people asking for rescue from flooding and wind damage". What intellegent person is told to evacuate because a Cat IV Hurricane will hit them directly", and chooses NOT to evacuate?

Congrads to NOLA. The levee's held and people took this serious. So far almost everyone lived (1 car drowning victim?). Their 3rd World power grid failed miserably, but that wasn't a surprise to anyone from NOLA. Hang in there, no power makes for long hot days. A giant tower fell on land (not in the water as reported), but there are power lines laying on and blocking the Ol' Miss.

You really have to appreciate the doctors and nurses who are saving people’s lives while not knowing if their own families are safe. I’m beginning to think it’s time to move the city further inland. The Netherlands doesn't have hurricanes. NO has levees and an improved pumping system. People were told to evacuate, so I pray NO public servants lose their lives trying to rescue people who didn't heed the warning. Not to mention the selfish idiots who didn't get vaccinated and have now filled the hospitals to capacity. There is no where to bring people who are injured from the storm.

@@s.fuhrmann yes most of the area below sea level I drove from New Orleans to Baton rouge and it was basically bridges the whole way the road was above ground level

@@gregpeterman1102 that's insensitive as hell! There is no electricity and it's blazing hot in New Orleans. This is dangerous for the elderly and the sick. Screw your light pollution crap at this time, this is a disaster and people are suffering.
