The National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop is adamant about making the city safe for everyone.
His team is engaging with stakeholders like police, ambulance, fire services and internet technology firms to install a responsive security surveillance system
Riding on the 2018 APEC security surveillance system, an international group was engaged and provided audit report for the 2018 security infrastructure.
Dahua Technology, a company based in the Middle East, North Africa and Australia presented its audit and recommendations to NCD Governor Powes Parkop and a team from the police ICT department.
Governor Powes Parkop was very keen to know if the APEC 2018 CCTV surveillance is still operational and can deliver surveillance to mainly combat crimes.
Dahua Technology did a two weeks audit on the infrastructure and found workstations were outdated and needs upgrading with a strong recommendation to upgrade and have third party manage the systems
One hundred and twenty sites were visited personally including the command centre at Oakley House. At Burns Peak, Seven Radio Frequency transmission towers were not functioning well and at Paga Hill the site was completely destroyed
Governor Parkop wants a better system that is expanded beyond the scope of APEC 2018 and using fibre optic to transmit data
The police department officials say the use of 2018 surveillance was a success where cameras can deliver live footage to the command centre on routes to the APEC House and to the Jacksons Airport
They were able to dispatch units to locations of concern immediately based on live feeds. They have personnel already grounded and just needs an introduction to the system to make it work
A K20 million funding has been made available to improve the security surveillance system in the city and Governor Parkop says it is important this becomes the blueprint for other centres
He says they will consult with all stakeholders like fire services, DataCo, ambulance services and police to ensure the system is responsive to everyone's needs and considers privacy of people important
Setting up the surveillance would target roads, malls, banks and popular public meeting places
Huawei will also be presenting their analysis and bid to set up the system.
