Great info! I just passed today and everything you shared was spot on! I would add that it was theories heavy so know the techniques common to each major theory/approach ie; cognitive restructuring for CBT.

Thank you so much! Waiting on bbs to approve my hours so I can take my exam. I am getting dual license MFT and PCC. I took the MFT exam last month and failed, I’m glad I watched your video because I was going to use tdc test exam prep, but through out your video I learned the LPCC exam is formatted differently. I’m located in California by the way 😊

Hi, my dad have failed this exam 3 times. He is a professional psychiatrist/psychoanalyst. With credenciales you can’t imagine. But, English is not his first language, even though he is been practicing and taking patience here for a while now. Second his practice is been in Venezuela for all of his life, different way to practice medicine or therapy. Anything you can recommend or advice? He is super smart and experienced but I am pretty sure there is something missing that he is not understanding. He was very close to pass a couple of times, like by 2%. I’ll really appreciate your inside. Thanks in advance I love your video.

Hi Jose, that is so frustrating for your dad. My advice would be for him to take practice tests on the counselingexam.com website I have linked. That website is formatted exactly like the exam, then he can get more used to language used on the test and if he starts passing the practice tests when he takes them I think he would be in better shape for the actual exam. Standardized tests are definitely biased against ESL folks, I hope it helps!

Hi Jose! I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I would recommend requesting an accomodation for extended time because of language, and also improving reading/comprehension skills! That's why I failed on my first time

Do we need to pass NCE first then NCMHCE? Or we can take either? Which one is more beneficial in terms of career path?
@allyssapowers

Yes NCE and then if you want to become independent you can take the NCMHCE.

You need to determine what your state licensing board requires.

@@allyssapowers I don't understand your answer. Am I understanding the OP's question correctly? For instance, the California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) requires passing the NCMHCE only to be licensed as an LPCC - Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.

Hi Allyssa, thank you for sharing all of this information. I have a couple of questions. I am about to start studying for the NCMHCE exam. My masters is in Mental Health Counseling. I currently work as a Child Protective Specialist and have recently been hired for a mobile crisis position as mental health specialist. This will be my first hands on experience working directly with the mental health population. Do you think this exam is for people who are already in the field?
@allyssapowers
11 ай бұрын
Well you do need a specific amount of direct client hours to get your lpcc. So you need to be working directly with clients and diagnosing for two years minimum before you take this exam.

I would recommend taking a full length practice test online and timing it to make sure you can do it in the allotted timeframe...I personally had no issues with time.
