Hi Jane, thanks so much for this super helpful tutorial. I might be missing something trivial but when I compute the study, I get an error "Undefined variable. - Variable: Deff - Geometry: geom1 - Domain: 1" Deff is not defined in the global parameters or anywhere else- but I don't know how you got the code to run?

Hi Grace, I probably forgot to input that when I did the recording as I didn't film this in one go. Based on Equation 1, you have to rewrite the flux equation for each species as a result of the migration and diffusion mechanisms. The Deff, in this case, is the 𝐷𝑖 as shown in the expression. That is, the diffusion coefficient for species 𝑖, 𝐷𝑖, is corrected based on Bruggeman’s expression for porosity and tortuosity: 𝐷𝑖=𝐷𝑖,0*𝜀^𝑏 and 𝑏=0.5 [2], where 𝐷𝑖,0 is the diffusion coefficient in the bulk medium. Therefore, you can define your Deff in the parameters section as: Deff = D*E^0.5 I hope that helps to answer your question! [2]: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2211339816300119
