huge? as if ;P Cheers for the shoutout mate, I love Nebulous, it's a seriously fun game that really reignited our RTS stomp crew. We used to do COH2 for example, we'd all squad up and play non-stop for hours, but eventually we got tired of it. It's hard to find a game to replace that, that gives consistently engaging matches and give the same sort of rush of success and danger, but Nebulous does it perfectly. There's a lot of talking even prior to contact for a game that can be quite slow in some matches. We're keen to see the next update, and I actually just dropped a Nebulous video I had in my backlog for ages this morning. Talk about timing :P EDIT: Also, now watching the rest of the video, good god man you've spotted some great points that people miss often. The whole 'showing servers in progress' is a great example of game design psychology. For an example that we use quite often in ArmA, we have players sign up to play various roles in operations. So they put their name down to be say, a Medic on the day, or an AT Soldier on the day. We had a problem where any role that was referred to as "Driver" was often left empty, even if there were still players who wanted to join the session. Because of course - no player wants to join a game and be stuck driving the ENTIRE 3-4 hours. So what did we do? Instead of writing 'Gunner' and 'Driver', we just write 'Crewman' and 'Crewman'. Now we never have any trouble with those slots filling, and players will either pick a role on the day or just switch between.

For me it's also a good spot for this type of game. I could pay more, but not for a game I am not sure to like. Now with how much I already played I wouldn't mind if it costed 60$ XD, but i couldn't know that at the time. I wouldn't mind to buy a few DLC in the futur to help the devs, maybe with a second story campaign or something like that when the first one is made ? But DLC is always a complicated thing... I just hope what they are earning is enough for them to make all this work worth it.

I'll be honest with you, I got about halfway through the tutorial and then realised that this game was way too complex for me, and I would never get a handle on it, so I just left on the HD and moved on. However I couldn't ignore the obvious amount of work and thought that had gone into this game, therefore I couldn't bring myself to refund it, in fact I actually bought another copy and gifted to a friend who loves this style of game, and he's well impressed with it. Even though NFC didn't work out for me I'm not complaining because the gaming community needs indie devs like you producing quality niche games like this, and I'm happy to support.
@MrMorvana

It's very complex indeed if you want to "master" it. If you just want to be able to play it's not much harder than an STR like Age of Empire. If one day you want to try again, go on the discord, there is a lot of people more than happy to help new players ^^.

@@MrMorvana Hey thanks. It's really less to do with the complexity, and more to do with the time i would need to invest to unravel that complexity. Due to work commitments I basically have 2 maybe 3 hours gaming time a week, if that, so I tend to go back to what I know. That said if I have time I'll redo the tutorials and drop into the Discord.

Oh hell yeah, you're giving me Honor Harrington like missiles now basically. Love that series representation of space missiles in combat. Now just let me group missile together into like salvo groups and dedicate 1-2 as seekers, 2-4 as decoys, 1-2 as squealers/ECCM and the rest of the 12-16 missiles being pure penetrators. You're getting really complicated though then. I think we should have some carriers/fighters added too!

Any thoughts on a “tracker” warhead? Something that would lodge in the hull and provide targeting data for other missiles / guns / maybe even send a signal that would be detectable even when you would normally be seeing clutter from jamming?

There is a thousand of potential ideas, I am not sure the devs will add more than what is announced in their document presenting the update. However, you can mod the game, so maybe we will be able to see new missiles parts (even if with the problems exposed in the video about the multiplayer it may be hard/impossible).

Much as I love my Gun BB, I also really, really like missiles as well. I'm actually quite partial to large missile counts, as there's something rather satisfying about a large number of them sweeping around the side of an asteroid to strike an unsuspecting target, or targets. I hope that a lot of that strategy does remain viable following the modular update. That it remains useful even along side single, highly powerful missile types.
@MrMorvana
2 жыл бұрын
Unless there is big changes with the balance, we can see the missiles we already have still exist and cost the same, or even less. So the same tactics should still be usable. Even more, we will be able to make swarms of size one missiles... The range will be pathetic, but I WILL use it XD The new PDs will probably change things, but in the worst case you should be able to send a salvo of "baits" to open the way for "basic" missiles.

Hey @Eridanus Industries, Thank you for this magnificent work of art. You have made a great game, that combines fast-paced battles and slow-paced chess game before the showdown, which is insane. And oh, yes, the missile update. It will not only change missile state from “shotgun” type of weapon to an actual tactical asset, but also finally revive the dead-born stealth gameplay, making “submarine” style of playing actually work, since you will be able to launch devastating payloads from outside detection range, which will allow you to make people actually think about their radar coverage. Right now i’d easily sacrifice radar range for more reactor power, in turn having more gyros, amplifiers and so on. Because its just not that relevant. In the end of the day, we are still playing the jamming game, so the radar range is only relevant till first detections. But with that you will actually have to have for ex counter-corvette escorts on your BB, since now one or two well-placed torpedoes from a radar/comm silent corvette can do insane damage to a BB, and also, there will be option to build fast anti-corvette torpedoes and longer range PD missiles to counter that. Like the entire game of “rail BB + lock/spotter” will just fade into oblivion, since it will become to dangerous to have an unprotected BB, so as it will bring back the need for formations, and, again, escorts. Thanks again. You have done amazing job, and it will be the future staple of space RTS, just give it some time to grow on masses. Homeworld is classic, but you guys outdid it utterly and completely.

This is really amazing. I've been a big fan of CoaDE for a long time but it's always been more of an interesting toy than a fun game, and I'd been resigned to the belief that any space game going for realism would be so niche and laser-focused on realism that it wouldn't be able to be much more than that. This game strikes a really nice balance and, while unlike a lot of people I knew I wanted it, I certainly wasn't expecting to get it.

For the lessons I would add to think about the localization early. The latter it's made, the more there is to change, and it's never on top of the priority list... Even without any official translation, for a game like this one there is always someone who would be happy to make a mod for his langage. Sure, for a small game it won't make a HUGE difference in the player base, but each player count when the player base is so small.

In general I strongly prefer a community moderation approach to this kind of thing and believe it's up to players to refuse to play with people like that if they care about it. The player in question was not banned for their fleet insignia or ship names (though it did help us establish them as someone of very poor character). They were banned because they were putting up public lobbies with tons of racist language for days, which was not creating a positive image for my game. I'm trying to run a business here, and someone intentionally trying to defame my business's image needs to be dealt with. It pained me greatly to have to implement this system, and I sincerely hope it's the only ban I'll have to make.

Gutted to hear you were ultimately happy with how the sphere widget turned out. The game fights you tooth and nail to prevent you from issuing orders (movement and engagement) accurately and quickly in 3D space at every phase of the engagement and it's really made it a struggle to try and work up the will to play even bot matches, let alone go get beat up by keybind memorizing supertasters in player/player lobbies.
@argokarrus2731

Honestly, I'm a novice at the game, and I couldn't disagree more. The sphere widget is not that hard at all, and even from Tactical View you can make courses rather quickly and accurately. It's actually rather intuative and I find it rather easy to change and re-issue orders with a good degree of positional accuracy. Also, I'll be honest, having played with the MP community, the only way you learn is to play proper MP. This game is not an SC2 Hypermicrofest, I don't think too many people know their binds.
