These upside down harmonies are my new favorite way to freak my friends out, but also so many of them turn out genuinely enjoyable to listen to -- like a whole new batch of brand new songs to enjoy that still have some sort of tether to already-existing classics! I also love seeing other comments giving their interpretations on what the negative harmonies feel like, because everyone seems to have something different to say.... Also idk if you take requests but if you do: "Paris 1919" by John Cale I feel like would be interesting to do a negative harmony version of. (Plus I've been obsessed with that song lately)

interesting how inverted four chords are i-iv-III-v, would like to know how that sounds with every other axis of awesome thing
@billbrasky7540
3 ай бұрын
What would the phonetic names of those chords be? I have a super elementary concept/barely a grasp on music theory or how to read or write proper music. In the key of Amaj, the "I" would be A, II=B, III=C, and so on yeah? Or if the key is in Cm, the i=Cm, ii=Dm, iii=Em, etc... ? But in cases where the numerals are just written without any indication to what alphabetic denomination to tell the read what key it starts in, e.g., as you wrote "i-iv-bVI-v" /minor one, minor four, flat major 6th, minor five (I at least know that LC=minor and UPC=major haha), but anyway, again, without the "key", like "i-iv-bVI-v in the key of-idk, any random key-Am, juat say for the sake of using example to try to explain what i have in my head; without the alphabetic key denomination being listed along with the numerical key denominations, how does the reader seem to automatically know what key to start thinking and playing in?
@KurosakiYukigo
3 ай бұрын
@@billbrasky7540 Chord outlines are mostly just for showing the *shape* of songs. I-V-vi-IV sounds the same no matter what key it is, just in a different pitch. Finding the key is just a matter of identifying the (I) chord, which is usually the first chord ever played in the song, then you just have to use your ear to figure out what note that is and the rest fall into place.

this is so creative and tbh kind of surprising that a lot of these negative harmonies actually sound good. I wonder how you do it, surely there's a program or plugin you run it though to get this kind of result, I can't imaging you pitch shifting every beat to match correctly. I heard you don't do requests so I won't ask but I'll just mention the song 'breaking the girl' by RHCP to get it off my mind because it's been an earworm for me recently.
@lulairenoroub3869
3 ай бұрын
The root note of breaking the girl is E4. So that is 0 Find the sheet music, and on a piece of paper, convert every note to a number which is the distance from E4 So if it's 3 notes higher, it's 3. If it's 3 notes lower, it's negative 3 When you're done, reverse the signs, so positives are negatives and vice versa Convert back to musical notes Give to a musician friend and ask them to play it It would take a long time, but you could do that, even if you don't know anything about music. If it's niggling at your brain, could be a fun project
