Why do so many negative-harmony songs sound like Simon and Garfunkel? Did those two just compose their songs backwards or something? If we play their songs in negative harmony will they sound like heavy metal?

[Verse 1] There's no man knows for certain what glitters is dirt But he's using the hallway for free When he fails to arrive, if the stores are alive, With a thought he will leave empty handed Ooh, ooh, and he's using a hallway for free There's a blank boring door, but he don't really care He don't know if the words have a meaning In a can by the road, there's a beetle who talks Because all of our words can be perfect [Chorus] Ooh, it makes me certain Ooh, makes me certain [Verse 2] There's a logic I miss when I don't see the East And my body is laughing for staying With my reason I'm blind to the air in the wind And the whispers of those who sit blindly [Chorus] Ooh, it makes me certain Ooh, really makes me certain [Verse 3] And it's shouted that later if no one gives the speech Then the speaker will shoo us from feelings And the day will not end for those who sit down And the suburbs will muffle the crying [Chorus] Oh-oh-oh-oh-nevermind. [Verse 4] If there's a calm day in your driveway, better freak out, hey It's just winter filth from old Jack Frost Yes, there is one path you can come by, but as soon as you do There is no time to stay off the fields, you know [Chorus] And it makes me certain Ohh, whatever [Verse 5] Your butt is singing, but it will pass, of course you know that The speaker's telling you to stay away Gross old man, can you see the sun shine? And are you blind Your hallway's not in the shouting clouds? [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] And as we stay still in the field Our faces shorter than our heads There sits an old man no one knows Who absorbs darkness and wants to hide How nothing crumbles to dust And if you look casually You'll forget the words immediately When all is separated To turn into the Rolling Stones [Outro] And he's using a hallway for free.

The gist of it is that all the musical intervals are inverted. For example: a C major chord has a C, then a major 3rd above that (E) and a minor third above that (G). The negative version starts on the G and goes down a major third (Eb) then down a minor third (C). And this works melodically too - so if a melody starts by going up a third, the negative version starts by going down a third.
@BriggsMullen
6 жыл бұрын
paeganini The axis that everything gets flipped over is between the root and fifth of the key. So in C, a D is a whole step above the tonic, and would become F - a whole step below the fifth. So if we invert a V7 chord in C, the G becomes a C, the B (half step below tonic) becomes Ab (half step above fifth), the D becomes F, and the F becomes D
