There are no better lyrics to describe how it is for a man who is in a relationship with a woman who he knows doesn't love him anymore and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it. She's unable to completely cut the cord (although she's close), and he's in tremendous pain every day. He knows he should just let her go and leave, but he just cant.

Fell in love with a covert narcissist 20 years ago. Although I learned a lot from it (and I do mean a lot), after all was said and done, at it's core, it was still a one-night stand with a 20 year break up and some really unforgettable nights here and there. Things could have been different if she had just been honest with herself. This song describes such a relationship perfectly. Thank you, Neil.

Wow! Are you me? This comment hit me so hard. I could have written it myself. I haven't been the same since I met her. I hate the things she did, but yet I'm glad that I had the chance to learn the harsh reality of the depths of people's capacity for being awful to someone you are supposed to love. Glad I'm not alone. Hope you're doing better wherever you are.

@zafricious No, you're not alone. We're all in such a rush to try to live before we die, we forget to respect ourselves by way of our choices for a mate. I'm doing much better, and I hope you are as well. Have a great life.

What are the telltale signs of a covert narcissist? I am beginning to question it regarding my marriage of over 23 years. I have read too many differing descriptions of it. I would like to hear from someone who has lived through it.
@richardguevara787
Жыл бұрын
@michaelancey7786 Well, it's taken on a case by case basis. In my particular case, I learned very late in the relationship that she had not been truthful and forthcoming about the mental and physical abuse she experienced by her father. He was a religious fanatic, and nothing she ever did as a child was good enough for him. Additionally, she was held responsible for and punished for her younger siblings' behavior. We all relive our childhoods, so just imagine translating her father's behavior through her presence. We did great as long as nothing I did triggered some deep-seated emotional landmine. It could have been something as simple as spending 30 seconds on the phone with my ex wife as a court ordered courtesy to deliver information about my daughter's schooling for her upcoming custody exchange. Every 4 to 6 weeks, I was given relentless silent treatment, denied sex, or was given a vicsious scowl from across the dinner table. I just chaulked it up to her menstrual cycle. Once she determined that she was done with the punishment, she was very gentle and sweet, very supportive, had a great body, whitty and funny, and had a great career. The underlying message was, "You're not through suffering until I decide that I'm done with you." It was a power trip that she needed on a chemical level to sustain her own sanity, and there I was feeding into it by saying to myself, "If only I could show her", "If only I could love her more", "If only I could make things easier for her", "if only...", "If only...", "If only...." A man begins to lose himself, and it's very unhealthy. As we both got older, the punishments lost their nuance, and she would simply become verbally abusive, all the way down to such pettiness as attacking something as simple as a hat I was wearing. Once I finally was given the proper insight as to what I was really dealing with, it all made sense, and it made saying a final goodbye all that much easier. There's plenty more, but I think you get the idea. It's like trying to put a band-aid over a cut on a leg which was amputated decades ago. You can't fix it. Hope that helps.

This is my all-time favourite song from the 1980 film-The Jazz Singer, co-written by Gilbert Becaud [best remembered writing songs like What Now My Love?, A Little Love and Understanding and not to mention September Morn, in which he co-wrote with Neil Diamond] and I do have the French, German and Spanish versions of the song. Also, I`d like to dedicate this song to my late parents, who are great Neil Diamond fans as well as me.

As a young man I loved Neil Diamond but now that I'm older I never appreciated the message he was portraying in his songs. I am so glad that now I can appreciate his songs the way We were supposed to understand them. My favorite song was Love on the Rocks. I'm glad that Neil Diamond. And many other artists were leading the masses to a better understanding of life. Most of us only see things on the surface. There's nothing wrong with that view but we don't see the depth of our vision. I'm still open to suggestion

Love on the rocks Ain't no surprise Just pour me a drink and I'll tell you some lies Got nothin' to lose so you just sing the blues All the time Gave you my heart Gave you my soul You left me alone here with nothing to hold Yesterday's gone Now all I want is a smile First, they say they want you How they really need you Suddenly you find you're out there Walking in a storm When they know they have you Then they really have you Nothing you can do or say You've got to leave, just get away We all know the song You need what you need You can say what you want Not much you can do when the feeling is gone May be blue skies above But it's cold when you love's on the rocks First, they say they want you How they really need you Suddenly you find you're out there Walking in a storm When they know they have you Then they really have you Nothing you can do or say You've got to leave, just get away We all know the song Love on the rocks Ain't no surprise Just pour me a drink and I'll tell you my lies Yesterday's gone And now all I want is a smile
