James Kalm has been waiting anxiously since hearing that The Drawing Center had scheduled a Neo Rauch drawing show. This major survey covers roughly a twenty five year period of Rauch’s work, and follows the arch of his career from his appearance as a leading member of the New Leipzig School, to his current renowned as one of Europe’s most influential and recognized artist.
This show includes around a hundred and fifty works all on paper, in a spectrum of mediums, techniques and scales, from playing card sized to near three meters on height. During this casual walk-through viewers will see the artist’s skill as a draftsman, his ability to mingle discordant images evoking bizarre narratives, and the range of his coloristic experimentation. A musical introduction is provided by Bartholomew. This program was recorded April 12, 2019.
