I have one too! Every time I want to put some vibrato I am doing the automatic gesture now xD Even without the ring. So easy to use, and a great addition for solos.

It's funny cause some of this, Yamaha actually implemented on their Electone organs that is only sold in south Asia. The Upper keybed on the top models has both vertical (pressure) and horizontal (sideway key movement) aftertouch, which makes you able to do an actual manual pitch vibrato like you do on most stringed instruments. This is a feature that would be awsome on most synths, but the Electones is the only instruments that Yamaha used this on

@@VultureCulture Seems to be flying totally under the radar of most synth and Keyboard users. The ELS-02C is soundvise like a variation on the Tyros 4-5 generation. Even the pedal board has normal aftertouch wich I have never seen before on an "organ" asia-latinamerica-mea.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/electone/els-02c/specs.html#product-tabs

Thanks for the very thorough review. I bought one of these recently and am not sure if I'm setting it up right...just getting a red blinking light on the controller. The ring has to fit in the controller a certain way to charge, I guess? Anyway, thanks again for the review and the walk-through.

Really good review, thank you! I am really stuck between getting either this or something like a Monogram Traveler for orchestral programming. What appeals to me is kind of the "feel" of the ring as you described, being a guitarist by origin myself it just seems very intuitive to use with all sorts of instruments. This video will definitely help in the decision making to come! Subscribed and Liked :)

The idea of the ring is fine. The company producing it is out of the game however, so I wonder what to do when the ring eventually loses its battery capacity, how can it be replaced to be still functional? Is there actually any possibility to see inside it what kind of acumulator it is?

Im not sure i’m sold tbh, at $400 you could pickup a basic iPad and Jordan Rudess’s amazing Geoshred software and still have cash left over for a nice lunch or dinner or invest the remainder in the SWAM instruments for Geoshred. The DEAD if you choose wrong ring size is not cool either.

I'm not sure it's accurate to call it MPE, it works with everything midi 1.0. You could think of it as monophonic MPE in the sense that you can't add vibrato or parameter modulation to one note and not the other.

@@VultureCulture "monophonic MPE" is an oxymoron, the P is for polyphonic! This is basically an alternative to a breath controller or mono aftertouch strip, or other mono aftertouch expression device. It looks interesting though.
