According to the texts, the king of Tikamgarh found sculptures similar to Sita in caves of Janakpur as mentioned in the Ramayana, and he built the Janaki temple in honour of King Janak right in the middle of city. Janaki temple is also known as the "Naulaakha mandir" as it was built in around nine lakh rupees, which used to be a huge sum back then.
