I totally agree with his views on this! I don’t care how harmless someone may seem.. the crimes were so horrific that life should mean life! The purpose of getting that sentence is to pay for what she CHOSE TO DO. This is the very kind of thing that is the reason we have paroled people getting out on “good behavior” or supposed “rehabilitation” and “no longer a threat to society” yet killing again! Once that is done, it’s too late because another family has to walk this life without their loved one(s). STOP giving criminals and predators so much credit instead of full consequences!!
@jn8ive60

Wrong. The purposes of getting that sentence were to protect society and to present a deterrent to society, not for pure revenge. She has been deemed to be no further threat to society (and honestly, it's very difficult to imagine that she would be at this time) and her over 50 years in prison has been deemed to be enough of a deterrent to society. Naturally, there will occasionally be errors in these judgments, but there are always errors in everything and nothing is ever perfect. That is not a reason to abandon these standards. And the odds are astronomically against any 74-year-old being a threat to society. Therefore, she should be freed.

Leslie was retried in 1977 and received a 7 years to life sentence. She’s done 53 years and not one single infraction. She had nothing to do with the murders at the Tate house so who cares what those families have to say! Bottom line, she’s done everything she’s been asked to do in prison - she is rehabilitated what more do you want? She’s received parole 5 times from the parole board, but then vetoed by the CA governor on false grounds until now. In my opinion and obviously the parole boards, she has earned her parole at 73 years old. Move on!

Leslie wasn't there at the Tate home. She was at the labianca murder. It was really cold blooded. After killing them they went into the fridge and had a snack. She made a choice to go live on a crazy cult compound. It's not normal to do that from high school popular girl to drop acid and join a wacky group of criminals. Krenwinkle and yes should Never get out. Glad Susan Atkins died. The daughter of the labiancas goes to see Ted and hang out with him and forgives him. I think she is just profoundly damaged trying to make sense out of her murdered parents. They dead were victims but so are the loved ones still suffering. They are also victims in pain. The people that died in a lot of ways had it easier than all the years of family and friends suffering. It's just another blow.

I would see Rosemary driving around the neighborhood from time to time. I lived on Rowena Avenue and from my front door stoop I could look up to Waverly Drive and see their house. I once saw their son tossing a football to his friend on the front lawn. I thought how nice it would be to live in that house because of the beautiful view they had. Until they caught those people everyone in the neighborhood was terrified. It was the first time I can remember feeling really afraid. So I guess Charlie got what he wanted. Fear. Her attorney should be horse- whipped. Those people weren't just butchered, they were tortured first. No amount of good behavior can bring those people back or un-do the brutal and sadistic way in which they were murdered. Nothing can remove that awful fear we all felt after they died. Her imprisonment wasn't about hatred or revenge, it was about justice for the people who died, for their families and friends, and for Los Angeles.

Jay Sebring was on the verge of building a business empire (by licensing salons, product lines, etc) that would have benefitted his family greatly, yet was not to be due to his murder. He was a veteran and worked his way into becoming the top men’s stylist in Hollywood at that time, through determination and hard work. Another cruel fact in addition to many others that resulted from these crimes. Leslie was proud of her crimes then, smiled and laughed at the victims families in court and never showed any empathy except to display it in front of the parole board when it was solely for her benefit. And unlike the other murderers, she was allowed out on bail prior to her trial as her family had money and supported her throughout her very privileged life. And unlike many Manson followers who struggled with life during that time, Leslie happily went all in with Manson simply to rebel, always having her wealthy family and friends back East to rely on. To me it makes her crimes slightly more vicious, and it saddens me she is free now while the suffering of her victims’ families has no end.

Leslie Van Houten is out on parole she has to at 73 get a job to pay those parole fees. She missed out on having a family living a normal life the best years of her life are gone she has to live with that and she won’t live much longer let her live with her actions on the outside and trust me the real life sentence would have just begun she may even end up back in prison.
