Very good port. It even has scrolling tower like in Battletoads. To bad it is a bit short. And bosses take too many hits.

Honestly, looking back I'm genuinely amazed that this actually seems like a pretty alright NES port. Like, this isn't just salvageable, it's already pretty faithful to the original game and got some of it's more technically impressive moments (especially that swinging rope and the 3D bit with the tower) working on the NES of all things. And of course, that glorious credits sequence.

For a Bootleg, this is absolutely phenomenal work! The quality here can definitely pass off for an authentic port at times and some care and love was really put into this - with a bit more tweaking and optimization, I say this can be a proper good port!

This port was actually promising even in the data of the game there was graphics for the Steamboat Willie Mickey for his transition and the entire Mad Doctor level (Including the elevator and sprites for the boss with his room I think) also some extras like the checkpoint rockets aswell some other entities that went unused Too bad Ei-How Yang were pretty lazy and in every port that they did there's a lot of unused content
@sikthehedgehog
6 жыл бұрын
More likely that they were rushing out stuff (probably to get money quickly). If they were lazy then all that unused stuff would not be there. I recall hearing once that the conditions in which these ports are made are not far off from ET on the Atari 2600 (read: being pressured by the boss to release way too early)

@@sikthehedgehog Wouldn't be surprised. That's what happened with Hummer Team's NES port of Super Mario World. It was taking a bit too long to make as they actually had to make a brand new engine from scratch for that port & they had to finish it in an unrealistic time frame, thus they gave them an unfinished build, calling it "Super Mario World Volume 1". The finished version was eventually put on a 45 in 1 multicart sometime later.

Forget the swinging rope, look at the tower stage! The rotating tower is amazing, but the water is super amazing I can't even describe it in words! Rising water in a NES game! -Are we sure this is a bootleg? It could be that it's a homebrew but some random bootleg company added 7 to the title screen, similar to what happened with the Mario megadrive port and the Battle City megadrive port.- Nvm, that ending screen

Despite this game being impressive for a bootleg, why did they have to add in the loading screens from the snes version?
@ExtremeWreck

Probably so that some of the things can load in properly. The NES was obviously weaker so they likely had to make you wait a little so that everything can be put in at the same time.

@@kiwibro6454 Well they presumably had much more experience than these Taiwanese bootleg developers did, not to mention having official development kits, therefore they were able to make some really cool material happen surprisingly quickly. Or the bootleggers just thought it'd be something to put in as to make it more faithful... well, to the SNES version. Not sure if they had the Genesis version, but it seems that they might have considering the sizes of a lot of the sprites seem to not be very noticeably compressed, so presumably this is a sort of mix-and-match port of both versions. I kind of wonder what Jon Burton would say about this port. That would be a very interesting discussion!
