Here's a quick video I put together when my Google Nest Thermostat (3.0) suddenly dropped off my wifi network after working fine or 18 months. This quick video shows the troubleshooting methods I used and how I ultimately solved and resolved the problem with my Nest thermostat. Here are the troubleshooting steps you can take:
0:00 Nest Thermostat Lost Wi-Fi Connection
0:45 Try rebooting your router and resetting your Nest
1:19 Twitter @GoogleNestHelp
1:37 Filled out a Google Form
2:05 Google sent me a NEW Nest Thermostat
2:19 Put the new Nest Thermostat on the wall
3:10 Send back the old Nest thermostat for free
1. Make sure your home wifi network is actually working and operational on multiple devices in your home (cell phones, TV, tablets, etc.)
2. Reset/Reboot your Nest thermostat. In settings you can scroll over to Reset and press it to see a few reset options. I would first try using the "Restart" option. If that doesn't work, try it again by Reseting the Network option. If that also doesn't work you can take one more try by resetting All Settings in the menu.
3. If at this point your Nest thermostat still doesn't see any wifi networks or gets stuck search for wifi networks it's time to reach out for support help.
4. You can google the Nest help and support pages, but I received MUCH better support by using Twitter and reaching out @googlenesthelp (Full Link: twitter.com/googlenesthelp?la... ). They walked me through a few reboot steps, asked me a few questions, and had me fill out a support form.
About 5 days later I had a NEW Nest thermostat that I installed right on the old base. It took about 10 minutes to set up.
I suspect Google knows there are issues with some Nest 3.0 thermostats losing the ability to connect to Wifi, which is why they so generously replaced mine free of charge. I did have to send the old one back (for testing? not sure). My thermostat was about 18 months old, though they never asked me any proof of purchase to verify the age of the thermostat.
