I find it very hard to even get to my net carbs of 20 now that I have been doing it for 3 months I rarely get past 10 net carbs in a day lol. But counting all carbs in things like broccoli spinach etc would never work for me . I would be malnourished and not eating enough calories to stay healthy, and still eat under 20 net carbs . I have lost over 80 lbs in the past 15 weeks doing what I'm doing so must be working for me lol .We are all different though and need different things to make keto work for us

I have been on the Keto diet for about 4 weeks and have lost about 15 lbs. More important to me is that my blood sugar levels are down to 90-110 from 140-160 (about to stop taking metformin), my HDL is up, my triglycerides are down and my blood pressure is down. I am 75 with cardiovascular disease and CABG surgery 5 years ago. I don't count carbs but I eat very few. Thank you for the videos. @@angelofmery21 You don't stay in a 'state of ketosis' forever on the diet...It's best to start out STRICT for the first couple weeks, which should EASILY put you into that 'ketosis' state......There are times though, where your mouth tastes 'salty', and that is how you know you are in ketosis, which means the body is literally eating your fat reserves and sending that those ketones to your brain..

This is what I thought. I wouldn't trust net carb amounts on a wrapper but if it's tomatoes, or courgette or broccoli, I will go by the net carbs. I remember learning that food information can be 10% out. So if a bar says it has 100 calories it's more likely that it has 110.

I find it very hard to even eat over 20 total carbs now that I have been doing it a while . If you are eating the right keto foods its easy to stay under 20 total most days , No one should be eating boxed or bagged foods anyway on a regular basis on keto.. Should be Unprocessed meats with the exception of bacon lol , full fat cheeses, eggs , heavy cream , butter ,coconut oil, avocados and green veggies . its almost impossible to go over 20 total carbs a day .But still curious about erythritol and the nut flours . also things like soluble corn fiber used in sugar free chocolate .

So basically what you're saying is that the nutrition facts labels on processed foods could be false, not that there's anything wrong with them if they are correct. That's more of a trust issue with the manufacturers and not the food itself. This is why the government should be involved in verifying the labels before the products are released to public.

Excellent! But I need a bit of clarification here. When we see total carbs 10, fiber 9, net carbs 1, what you appear to be saying is that we are ingesting 10 carbs. The fiber is merely slowing down the digestion of most of those carbs. The company producing that product is taking advantage of that slowing-down process and not telling us that the one carb is only an initial count, and they are not telling us that the remaining nine carbs will be digested later on anyway. Do I have that right?

A question for Dr. Berry, what is your opinion of medical providers staying keto is a bandaid for diabetes type 2. I have been told that you are not curing the diabetes rather you are keeping it at any by not eating carbs on the keto diet. This nutritionist states eating 50 grams of fiber is the answer and eating clean fibrous foods mostly pants based, no sugar processed foods but thing like legumes and whole grain like steel cut oats. She says the fiber makes the insulin response slower so that you insulin will not spike, she advocates low glycemic fruit and lots of fibrous foods. She told me I would not pass an oral glucose tolerance test by doing keto, but her plan would make the body more truly insulin resistant so you would pass the oral glucose test. What are your thoughts...
@DeedlyDood
6 жыл бұрын
You don't want to be insulin resistant. wtf is she doing giving advice like that. With that said, Yes if you stop keto and go back to the lifestyle of what gave you type 2, you will revert back. There is no known cure. The thing is however, keto is a cure as long as you STAY keto. If you go by the typical recommendation of beans, fruits etc, you will most likley still need insulin injections and that is a true band-aid fix that will only damage you in the long run. So please avoid her advice if you don't want to lose limbs in your 70s. (first hand experience with people eating a normal "healthy" diabetic diet)

My question, Dr. Berry, is what about things like almond flour, coconut flour or psyllium husk powder? Would you consider that a whole food the same as veggies? Because if I had to count total carbs when I make my hamburger buns, my total carbs would be like 40-50g! Psyllium husk powder is like 8g per tbsp, but 7 of it is fiber. Regardless, it hasn't affected my ketosis or weight loss so, lol

I think what the smart southern doc is saying is if it has only one ingredient (like my coconut and almond flours) then you can count net carbs. It is the ones with multiple ingredients that we as the general public have no bloody clue what they are and their impact; that we would use total carbs on. For me, I stay away from all processed foods except certain hot sauces. I took the opportunity when switching to keto to make pretty much everything from scratch and cut processed out. Once you do it a few times (making your own salad dressings, mayo etc) it really isn't time consuming and is often cheaper than buying the processed version. Oh did I mention, they usually taste better :) Good luck!

I don’t disagree w/ anything that was said here. However, my keto experience was counting Net carbs for everything and it’s been very successful. I’m losing 5-6 lbs of body fat a month whether I workout or not just by aiming for 20g or less of Net carbs and being aware of the glycemic index of foods I eat. This was also on top of taking antibiotics 3 weeks into the start of my Keto journey 6 months ago (tick bite). Antibiotics can mess with your gut biome for a good 6 months (the entire time I’ve been Keto actually) & negatively affect weight loss. Overall, the Keto lifestyle has been great & I’m never going back. I would like more videos on carb-cycling for a workout/weight training regimen for building more muscle. I know everyone’s body is different, but some basic guidelines would great. Great video!!! 😎

I make choc chip cookies with Lilly sf choc chips and almond and coconut flour! I eat them sparingly, as well as the newer Slim Fast Fat Bombs and still losing weight on keto! Because I don't want to live in a world where I cannot have a sweet here and there!😁 I may lose it a bit more slowly than people who do perfectly clean keto, but my BS is going down and I've lost 29lbs since April 1st 2020👍

I just rewatched this video. I think your idea about it being ok to count net carbs in whole foods but not in packed, processed foods, is a very reasonable (and safe) way to count carbohydrates intake. I try to stay clear of PF anyway. Thank you Doc. I bet that baby is growing like a weed!!

If one does not digest the fiber, why count it? Also, counting Total Carbs will severely restrict what can be eaten and how much of it can be eaten. Trying to do 20 carbs a day on Total Cars leaves one not eating much at all. Please tell me, what do you eat all day? I have given up most carbs for 18 months, lower my A1C from 6.4 to 5.1 and happened to loose 50lbs. My intention was not to loose weight, but to lower my A1C and blood glucose. I am no longer pre-diabetic which is all I want from Keto. I am not trying to be in Ketosis. I really want to know what you eat on a daily basis.

I always use a glucose meter to see if these products are working.
