Tip: Don't skip the "Mid-Conference Break" session - it's an interesting discussion of Windows Terminal.

One minor suggestion, maybe spice up the clickonce installer webpage, make it look a bit different than the old 4.8 framework look.

Is anyone still making desktop apps? I am talking about startups and not enterprise. If so what kind of desktop apps are you making?

Go for Electron based App with Web UI. I do not think, even MS uses any of these native GUI frameworks what they showcased here in the conference. Can they cite an example of a large scale, mission critical native App using WPF or Winforms on modern .Net 5 or even earlier - I doubt ?

Well, not totally. Moreover, it's an IDE. There is no solid end user consumer product. Outlook uses react and react native, teams uses electron and web and many more... Hence, they used babysmash for demos !

There are a huge number of customers building desktop apps for all sorts of scenarios. If you're thing is web I totally get it, but it's really not fair to say all use cases for desktop are dead. I do work on the product team so take this opinion for what's it is worth :).

@Angshuman Agarval, 1) Whole Microsoft Office and add-ins 2) Visual Studio 3) CAD and other engineering software 4) GIS, cartography, geological, scientific and other similar software 5) Electronic document management software 6) Tons of small and medium custom applications working as a glue joining cloud and on premise services zoo in the enterprise environment 7) Administrative tools 8) Almost all financial and banking software In other words, everything having more than three buttons in the UI or requiring security level higher than public access.

Whilst I really want a cross platform UI framework from Microsoft, Xamarin has always felt like the worst way of doing this. As a XAML platform it's a mess of weird concepts that work or don't work, and eventually you're going to have to write more platform native code than you wanted too anyway. Meanwhile, platform Uno is sitting out there doing what Microsoft should have done eons ago, rather than doubling down on Xamarin's poor foundations.

Johnny, Hello from the Xamarin product team! thanks for your feedback we really do listen to stuff like this. I have a follow up question. In the above comment you mention "eventually you're going to have to write more platform native code than you wanted", is there an example you could give us of something that with Uno this wouldn't be the case, but with Xamarin this is the case? As it seems you're saying Uno has solved these sort of challenges. I really genuinely love to know more.

@@lyalin Xamarin was painful for me coming from desktop WPF. I had to switch from TextBox to Entry and then I lost the rich composability. With WPF I can almost nest any control in another. The styles were also limiting. Will these be fixed in Maui?
