Explanation of the end part. Joost's dad told joost when he was very young. That borders (Also dutch for limits) were made by humans. And that they don't really exist. Joost's dad died when he was 12. A year later his mother died aswell. At the end he says that he misses his dad and tells his dad that he listened to him.

On top of that it was always his dream to perform at Eurovision. As a kid he told his parents that one day he would be the one on the Eurovision stage... Him finally getting to perform at the Eurovision this year is him showing to his dad that indeed there are no borders/limits and that he's living by what his dad told him.

The song is typical of the Netherlands. It is in Dutch, a music genre, the music video features mills and stunning Dutch landscapes. Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he did. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. I'm so proud of him.

This is not by accident this song and production is amazing and almost everyone I watched in reaction videos feel sad at the end. Going through all the emotions. A well crafted piece of art in 4:3. All explanation of the song has already been done in the comments. Finally a reason to be be proud again to be dutch. Europa Jonguh ! 😂

It’s fun and up beat, but in it’s core it’s a sad song about him missing his parents. Who died when he was very young. His dad thought him there are no borders. And while watching eurosong with them he told them he would preform there one time. They died when he was 12 and that’s why he dedicated this song to them. To me it’s more emotional with every listen.

At the time, he was just in the first year of grammar school in Leeuwarden. On his father's deathbed he promised him to become a writer. A year later, his mother also suddenly died. HII TRANSLATION OF THE ENDING HERE! What he says roughly translates to ‘At the end of the day we’re all just people, my father used to tell me it’s a world without grenzen (grenzen, means borders but it also translates to limitations). I miss you everyday is what I quietly whisper, see dad? In the end I always listened’ referring to the advice he gave him. He always told his parents who both passed he wanted to go to Eurovision and now he made it, taking after his fathers advice not to feel limited since the world is beyond limitation if you’re willing to work hard for it.
